Harry Potter series ‘ruined’ over ‘controversial’ behind-the-scenes decision

EXCLUSIVE: The new Harry Potter series already has mixed opinions ahead of the show’s release and one recent move by producers has sparked even more controversy

The Harry Potter series’ “magic is ruined” already due to one divisive move.

In an exclusive chat with Daily Star, PR Specialist Kayley Cornelius discussed the potential impact of Harry Potter author JK Rowling’s involvement in the upcoming HBO series, as it was recently revealed that the controversial star will act as executive producer.

Kayley said: “The recent controversies surrounding J.K. Rowling have undoubtedly permanently damaged the family-friendly image that once surrounded the Harry Potter franchise, and it’s unlikely that any subsequent branch of the series will ever reach the same heights of global success ever again as a result.”

“Living in a generation of social media and cancel culture, consumers are more aware than ever, but also more conscious about the types of brands, products and ultimately people they’re backing and willing to fork out their money for, especially during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.”

Kayley explained that it is “harder than ever to persuade consumers to part with their money,” so fans are being more considerate with their money. She explained that more consumers are considering “who is involved in the production process” when making decisions.

“Rowling’s involvement will be enough for people to tune out entirely and that will automatically impact how successful any new instalment of the Harry Potter universe will be.”

Kayley acknowledged that it would be “an impossible task” to please each and every Potterhead and explained that the series’ success will depend on whether JK Rowling critics can “separate the art from the artist”.

“For many, the magic of Harry Potter is now ruined forever and it’s gone past a point of no return to win back their support, but not all hope may be lost. The task at hand for producers now is likely to appeal to those who are simply just immersed in the fictional universe and storyline and who are able to look past the wider political implications.”

Nostalgia is a “huge” selling point for modern media and Kayley admitted it “has enormous sway over consumers”.

“It would be naive to say that there won’t be a lot of eyes on Rowling’s next project as many will be watching out of intrigue and to spot where perhaps the narrative changes from the original series. However, I’d anticipate critics to be harsher than ever and for this upcoming series to come with a string of negative reviews if it fails to provide an authentic Potter experience.”
