‘Heartbroken’ Glastonbury glampers have been left thousands of pounds out of pocket and without tickets or accommodation after a yurt company went bust just a month before the festival
Glastonbury glampers were left ticketless after a yurt firm went bust just over a month before the festival.
Yurtel customers received an email on Tuesday afternoon telling them the business had gone into liquidation. The company told punters they could not fulfil bookings – just five weeks before the iconic festival on from June 25-29.
It has left them without accommodation or tickets as the money had not yet been handed to Glastonbury organisers.
An email said the company had gone into liquidation on May 8 due to insolvency and added it would commence formal liquidation shortly.
It read: “By this point you will have received news of the liquidation of Yurtel Limited via this morning’s post. We have received a handful of enquiries from guests as to the situation with accommodation and tickets for Glastonbury Festival 2025.”
It added that Yurtel “cannot fulfil its future obligations to customers” leaving hundreds without tickets or accommodation.
One customer, who did not want to be named, told the Daily Star she had lost £12,000 for a five-night stay in one of Yurtel’s bell tents, as well as her ticket.
She said: “I couldn’t believe it when I received the email. I thought it was some sort of scam trying to get money or information out of us. But when I went online I could see they had taken their Instagram site down.
“We did some research and realised they had gone into liquidation.”
She added: “We’ve been told Glastonbury are trying to find tickets for us and new accommodation, but we have to pay again, and I just can’t afford it.
“I’m devastated. I’m not a millionaire, I saved so hard for this because I love Glastonbury and put the money away each month.”
Dozens of affected customers have complained online on festival forums.
One posted up: “Absolutely heartbroken that Yurtel have gone into liquidation.
“Just been told, we have lost thousands of pounds and no Glastonbury. Can’t believe it.”
Yurtel’s glamping tents range from their ‘mini-bell’ to ‘presidential luxury suites’ and feature luxury beds and bedding, safari style furniture, linen headboards and “marshmallow soft” beds.
A string of celebrities have previously boasted of staying in Yurtel tents.
Glastonbury Festival said: “We were sorry to learn that Yurtel Limited has appointed liquidators, and appreciate how disappointing this is for anyone who was planning to stay with them.
“Glastonbury Festival has no involvement with the operation of Yurtel Limited and as such we have no records of their bookings and are unable to take any responsibility for the services and the facilities they offer.
“Whilst Yurtel was one of a small number of campsites local to the Festival site with limited access to purchase hospitality tickets for their guests in certain circumstances, they had not paid Glastonbury Festival for, and had not secured, any tickets for the 2025 Festival prior to entering into liquidation.
“Anyone who has paid Yurtel for a package including Glastonbury 2025 tickets will need to pursue any potential recompense available from them via the liquidation process as outlined in their communication to you. We are not able to incur the cost or responsibility of their loss or replacement.”
