Highlander and Tarzan star rushed to hospital after ‘serious accident’ at hotel

Actor Christopher Lambert was taken to hospital after a “serious accident”.

The 67-year-old actor, best known for his role as Connor MacLeod in the beloved 1986 fantasy film Highlander, tripped on stairs and fell at a hotel a few months ago. He injured his back – but didn’t break it – during the accident and has been in physical therapy in a bid to get ready for his next project, Tulipomania.

The French-American sci-fi star was due to appear at a Swedish science fiction convention named SciFiWorld this weekend. However, the convention has informed fans that he will no longer be able to attend due his current medical issue.

A statement on Facebook, posted on Wednesday (March 12), read: “Christopher Lambert had a serious accident on Monday and is not allowed to travel or move for 1 month according to his doctor. He apologizes so terribly that he can’t attend Jönköping.

“We wish him a speedy recovery and you can leave a greeting for him here, as he reads our comments in English.” Fans were gutted and rushed to the comments to with the actor well on his recovery.

One wrote: “Too bad. Was really looking forward to meet Connor MacLeod in person. Take care and hope to see You in Sweden another time.” Another commented: “Speedy recovery, immortal!”

His spokesperson told TMZ: “As an actor, filming and promoting his films are an absolute priority and has always been, and while he has the highest respect for people organizing events and fans who attend; unfortunately this time he will not be able to attend the comic con.”

Christopher is also famed for playing Tarzan in the 1984 film Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes. The movie received three Oscar nominations at the 57th Academy Awards and became the first Tarzan feature film to get an Oscar nod.

He won the the César Award for Best Actor for his performance in the film Subway (1985). The César Award is considered the highest film honour in France and to be the equivalent of an Oscar.

Christopher played Raiden, a Japanese god, in the first Mortal Kombat film in 1995, and Methodius in Ghost RIder: Spirit of Vengeance (2011).

The fantasy icon also starred alongside a star-studded cast in the black comedy flick Hail, Ceasar! (2016). The film stars George Clooney, Josh Brolin, Ralph Fiennes, Scarlett Johansson, Michael Gambon, Channing Tatum and Tilda Swinton.

Lambert is gearing up to promote his role as Mark in Simona Calo’s upcoming mystery drama Eyes Everywhere. He also plays Professor Moreau in Alberto Gelpi’s 2018 werewolf thriller Shadow of the Wolf, which Lionsgate will release in the States via VOD on March 25.

It is currently unclear how the injury will affect shooting on Tulipomania, which is due to start filming next week. He is also promoting a new docuseries called Eyes Everyhwere.

Christopher is a dad to 31-year-old daughter Eleanor Lambert. He shares Eleanor with his ex-wife Diana Lane, with whom he starred with in Priceless Beauty.
