This Morning star Holly Willoughby has opened up about her struggles with “micro controls” and how they can lead to her feeling “anxiety and sensitivity”
Celebrity Bear Hunt star Holly Willoughby got seriously miffed when her hubby popped a question that seemed pretty harmless.
The telly fave, who’s toasting her 44th and currently the host of a brand new Netflix show, has admitted she battles with “micro controls” that can set off her “anxiety and sensitivity”.
These pesky triggers, often brushed off as trivial by most, are a real issue for the Celeb Bear Hunt star. In her book ‘Reflections’, Holly opened up about a time when her other half Dan Baldwin dissed her choice of telly programme, calling it “s***”, and how it really wound her up.
She penned: “One of the problems with micro controls is that they are insidious; they are often opinions we have internalised without realising, and it’s so hard to point at them, to call them out. This means our anxiety and sensitivity about them is triggered in other ways by something that seems quite small and insignificant.”
“For example, if I’m watching TV and my husband suddenly asks, ‘Why are you watching this s***? ‘, it will spark something deep inside and I will get disproportionately angry about it. I think it’s because all these other screws of control and of judgement have been tightened in ways that I am not always conscious of, and actually, a really small, unimportant thing like this sets me off.”
Holly reckons it’s crucial to ponder “what the situation represents” rather than the actual event when she feels miffed. She views a “flippant” remark about the telly as an attempt at “someone trying to control” her, reports the Mirror.
The Dancing on Ice host confesses she’s got a bit of a hang-up about being controlled, hinting it’s something she might need to tackle. Holly and her hubby Dan tied the knot back in 2017 and have since become proud parents to their trio – Harry, Belle, and Chester.
The lovebirds first crossed paths when Dan was producing Ministry of Mayhem, which Holly co-hosted with Stephen Mulhern. Dan’s no stranger to the telly world either, having worked on shows like Celebrity Juice, Through the Keyhole, and Virtually Famous.
