EXCLUSIVE: Daily Star reporter Bekka Barnard got her hands on some of Ed Sheeran’s new XXXtra Tingly hot sauce and is reporting back after a highly anticipated taste test
When I caught wind of Ed Sheeran’s new XXXtra Tingly hot sauce, I knew I had to try some.
For those of you who don’t know, Shape of You singer Ed Sheeran has a hot sauce brand adorably branded Tingly Ted’s inspired by his childhood nickname.
He kicked things off with the original Tingly sauce followed by Xtra Tingly, and now after a fair bit of begging from fans the star has released the new XXXtra Tingly hot sauce packed with fiery Carolina Reaper chilli, which is 250 times hotter than a jalapeńo.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a hot sauce connoisseur by any means but I love to try new things and a little bit of heat on your weeknight dinner never hurt anyone.
Ed’s new project promises to take your dishes “from mild to wild” so…let’s give this a go (eeeek!)
I shoved a batch of chips in the air fryer, added spring onion for some tang along with wilted spinach for the vitamins and got dipping.
Full disclosure, I decided against slathering the sauce all over my evening meal in case the stuff blew my head off. Judge me all you want.
I tentatively tested the hot sauce and I can confirm, Tingly Ted’s certainly lives up to its name. The intense prickling sensation stays in your mouth as you eat, yet doesn’t linger for too long after you’ve finished which left me seriously impressed.
This sensation makes the condiment perfect for those looking to venture out of their comfort zone without wasting their money on a full bottle of hot sauce, only to realise they can’t handle it – yes, I’m speaking from experience.
Ted’s XXXtra Tingly isn’t trying to be the hottest sauce on the market and doesn’t need to either – the sauce offers fruity undertones for some unexpected added flavour that leaves you wanting more, not red-faced and begging for a glass of milk.
Overall, I highly recommend and polished off my plate while contemplating what else I’ll be trying it with.
Real heat seekers could definitely go a step further and drench their dinners in the Sheeran sauce, but for someone like me that enjoys a subtler spice there’s still a world of possibilities out there.
I even mixed some with garlic mayo which went down a treat, but I’d also consider using the XXXtra Tingly sauce as a marinade for salmon, to add a kick to my morning scrambled eggs or to spice up some veggie tacos.
You could even use the sauce in a spicy cocktail like a Bloody Mary, although that’s really not my style.
If I’ve managed to tempt you to try Tingly Ted’s tantalising XXXtra Tingly hot sauce, get your hands on a bottle exclusively from Sainsbury’s until 16 April and Ocado until 20 May.
