But actor Larry Lamb, who is well known for playing Mick Shipman in the much-loved BBC show Gavin and Stacey, didn’t make “ideal husband” material.

She shared: “When I was 27 or 28, I had a roaring affair with Larry Lamb. Larry is a great guy, he was gorgeous and is still good looking. He has impeccable manners. My cousin and my brother both agreed that daddy would have loved Larry.

“He was decent person, intelligent, hard working. The fact he didn’t come from our world is neither here nor there.

“Larry, I used to say, is one of nature’s aristocrats. It quickly became apparent that Larry was not going to be an ideal husband for the long haul.”

Lady C also opened up about her two sons, now aged 32, on the podcast. She explained: “I adopted two boys from Russia. This was in 1991 and 1992. It was virtually unheard of for a single woman to adopt.

“My parents didn’t give any of us advice [on dating], they just made it clear what we were supposed to do. I think I’ve most likely done the same thing with my children.

“My children have had a series of girlfriends, and I have only ever once disapproved of one. I made it clear I found the whole thing unacceptable, and it then ran its course.”

The TV star, who is connected to British royalty through common ancestors and marriage, also shared her thoughts on the royal family’s choice of partners.

She said: “Harry had one or two really nice girlfriends. He had wonderful taste in girls. The problem is that once the excitement of being with a Prince and the possibility of being a royal duchess, after all of that has worn thin, it had no appeal.

“Even in my generation several of my friends could have married into the royal family, one or two of whom are royal themselves, and they didn’t want to do it because it’s so restrictive.”

But it appears she hasn’t found her own love match and claims that she doesn’t have the time for it.

Lady C declared: “I’m much too busy to be bothering with men. I don’t have the time for romance. I don’t date. I refused to date after I left my husband. I’m not a seal jumping through a hoop in a bloody circus.

“I made the decision [to be single] when the children were small and there would be suitors sniffing around. I thought I don’t want any man polluting my relationship with my children and flexing his muscles at their expense.

“Last time I was in love? That would have been [with her ex who she was with for 15 years] in the 70s to the 90s. I saw him at Ascot about five years later and he said to me … ‘I have shown up every morning outside the Albert Memorial’ – that was where we used to go running.

“The most romantic thing he ever said – and Diana Wales used to say she envied me for having been told it – was ‘I would love you even if you were a goat’. Which I thought was so wonderfully romantic and so did she.”
