EXCLUSIVE: Martin Jordan his factory job for a life travelling across the globe impersonating his celebrity lookalike, Gordon Ramsay. But here’s what the famous chef really thinks of him…
Earning a living as Gordon Ramsay is certainly a unique career path but one that has enabled Martin Jordan to leave his factory job and impersonate the famous chef full time.
No day is ever the same for this striking doppelgänger who first appeared on screens back in 2010 on Britain’s Got Talent as part of the Chippendoubles act.
But since then he has gone on to meet his spitting image Gordon – who has given him the seal of approval.
Talking exclusively to Daily Star at the Which Bingo Awards, which took place in Gibraltar earlier this week with Helen Flanagan in attendance, Martin opened up about his unique occupation and what it entails.
The celeb double said: “This is my full time job now – it’s a lot of travelling and you meet a lot of people and see a lot of places you would have never seen within your own life.
“You come to an event as an entertainer and you normally leave as one of the family, or one of the company. I do so many weddings and corporate events, I love it when companies take a chance on me, it feels quite special for someone to give me a chance, considering there’s a thousand acts to choose from.
“Gordon approves, I’ve actually body doubled for him before as well, he took me to America and used me as his double, which was amazing for me.”
Martin has even met Gordon’s wife Tana, who the famous chef shares his five kids with. He explained: “Funnily enough, one of the first things I did in a job before was with his wife. I actually had his wife in my kitchen and I had to introduce ‘my wife’ to him, which of course was really his own wife.
“He said to me ‘Where is your lovely wife?’ And there she appeared. He even said to me ‘Martin, make sure you send my wife home!'” he laughed.
Martin continued: “It all feels very surreal and beforehand I was one of the quieter people at school. But ever since Britain’s Got Talent, where I worked with a group of ‘Chippendoubles’ 15 years ago, it really set me off and I’m a lot more confident now. And now I’ve been full time for about 11 years now, it’s great.”
Martin appeared on the ITV show back in 2010 with his lookalike act The Chippendoubles, who were put together by David Beckham lookalike Andy Harmer.
Talking further about his time on the show, he added: “We became six friends for life – meeting them six guys sort of changed my life. I had only started doing it slightly, then Andy came to me and said he has an idea for BGT.
“I met him after doing the ASDA advert, and he had the idea but it all hinges on getting a Simon Cowell lookalike. But in the end, we were all in, myself, Beckham, Mr T, Simon, Will Smith and David Brent.
“But since then, we’ve all been such good friends, it was certainly the catalyst for me. I wasn’t a confident person, but it got me in front of big audiences. Now, I’m very confident with it and it was good to face that pressure.”
