An ITV News presenter has sparked concern for his health during a live broadcast.

Paul, who has hosted GMB with good pal Ranvir Singh, was hosting News at 10 with political journalist Robert Peston. However, viewers were distracted and took to social media to point out how one of his eyes looked redder than usual.

One fan wrote on X: “Has Paul Brand had an allergic reaction / hayfever reaction in his right eye? #ITVNews.” The comment got five likes, suggesting others thought the same.

The newsreader confirmed he was okay and that his toddler’s “grubby fingers” had caused the “dodgy eye”(Image: (Image: Instagram))

Another, who worried that the presenter was showing signs of a stroke, commented: “Paul Brand looks as if his face has dropped on the right hand side. That could be the sign of a stroke or Bells Palsy.”

However, Paul was forced to reassure viewers that, luckily, he was okay and that his “dodgy eye” was actually because of his toddler. Taking to Instagram, Paul told his fans: “For those asking, the dodgy eye is just a product of a toddler’s grubby fingers.

“Hopefully, it will be less red tomorrow.” [sic] Paul posted an update on Tuesday – a snap of him out and about – and confirmed that his eye was less “weird.”

In the summer of 2021, Paul welcomed a baby boy with his husband Joe Cuddeford, who was born through a surrogate mother. Their little boy, named Tomos George Cuddeford-Brand was born weighing a healthy 9lb 5oz.

Announcing the baby’s arrival, they wrote: “Welcome to the world, Tomos George Cuddeford-Brand. Born 10th June at 9lb 5oz. We have never known love like this before. You are the most priceless gift. #newborn #surrogacy #son #proudfather”.

Joe wrote: “Introducing Tomos George Cuddeford-Brand, born Thursday 10 June at 10.40pm. So thankful to have this perfect bundle of joy in our lives. Our surrogate and her whole family have been incredible.

“Thanks too for the incredible support from the midwives and labour ward team at @nottmhospitals, not least Jayney, Michelle and Sophie. What a team effort!”

Paul began his career at ITV Wales in Cardiff before joining ITV News in 2016. The Welsh journalist, formerly a political correspondent for ITV News, became UK Editor in 2021.
