Jackass icon Bam Margera has suffered a number of injuries throughout his skateboarding career and doctors once told him that his legs were as good as “dry rotted”
Bam Margera almost lost both his legs.
Ahead of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4, which stars Bam himself, the former Jackass legend spoke to TMZ about his past health issues and told the publication a doctor once compared his legs to “dry-rotted rubber bands” due to alcohol abuse back in 2013.
Bam told TMZ: “You know, in 2013 the doctor said they were dry-rotted rubber bands from alcohol abuse so I kind of lost hope, but now they are back to 100%. I’m skating again!”
“My passion’s back and I know that if I just focus on skateboarding then everything else comes along with it. You know, when you love what you do and people can see that.”
“You know I got lost for a little while and I didn’t skate for 10 years. I realised: ‘What made me happy? What got me to where I was then?’ and it was skateboarding.”
That isn’t the first time Bam has faced issues with his legs as the stuntman tore his MCL back in 2024.
The agonising injury was caught on video by his friend as the 44-year-old was captured showing off his skateboarding skills in a pair of jeans and a black t-shirt.
Margera attempted to land a complicated trick when he fell down and hit the ground. The clip shows the Jackass star’s knee landing in an awkward position.
Bam quickly grasped his leg, clearly in pain as he rolled on the floor. TMZ reported that he tore his MCL during the accident but luckily did not need to go in for surgery.
The skateboarder later took to Instagram to confirm the news and shared a picture of himself in a wheelchair holding crutches.
He simply wrote: “Torn MCL,” in the caption with a shrugging emoji. Fans joked that he “isn’t 19 anymore” and that he needs to “stay focussed and heal up”.
