Telly chef James Martin went to London with a guard dog – after he and three pals were all attacked in the capital within a week. The cooking king said two of his mates had their cars nicked while the third was mugged in ‘broad daylight’ – suggesting ‘London is broken big time’.

He then returned to his motor to find a window smashed. James, 53, vowed when he visited again he would be ‘bringing the Malis’.

Belgian Malinois – aka Belgian Shepherds – are known as ‘fantastic’ protection dogs as they are ‘strong, very intelligent, fearless, confident, hard-working and fast’, according to experts.

Martin posted a photo of his Mali in a harness marked ‘working dog’ on Instagram – captioned simply: “London!”

The Saturday Kitchen host was stunned by the quadruple attack in May. He posted at the time: “So in a week two of my friends’ cars got stolen, one other mate got mugged and now I had this happen all in broad daylight all in central London. London is broken big time…next time I’m bringing the Malis.’’ He added three paw-print emojis.

One law expert replied saying police patrols in the capitol had been cut.

They said: “Our central London police response teams have been cut by 15%. Last Saturday in Westminster on a night shift we had four cars out.

“Within two hours three were off the road with arrests very quickly that left a single patrol car, which lasted until 4am.

“10,000 reported crimes each month that our dwindling remaining officers are trying to work through. They have taken experienced officers off the streets to deal with these crimes and process new prisoners that courts do nothing with.”

The expert said 3,000 new recruits ‘promised’ by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan ‘will never happen’.

“Recruitment is at an all time low,” they said. “We are truly broken. Londoners & tourists deserve to be safe. “We simply cannot provide the service.”

According to security specialists A1K Ltd Belgian Malinois are ‘instinctively protective’ making the breed a ‘fantastic protection dog’.

Its website said: “They are strong, very intelligent, fearless, confident, hard-working and fast. This loyal breed wants to learn, please and protect but at the same time is a loving family companion. Belgian Malinois are hard-working dogs, bred originally to protect farming livestock. Give a task to a Mali and they will thrive to learn and do it to the best of their ability. They have so much energy and never appear to stop.”
