Big Brother star Henry Southan has given his brutally honest verdict of Jeremy Clarkson’s pub The Farmer’s Dog after going there for a roast, and he wasn’t too pleased
An ITV star wasn’t happy with the food at Jeremy Clarkson’s pub.
The former Top Gear host, 65, is the proud owner of The Farmer’s Dog pub in Oxfordshire, which opened last August. However, Big Brother star and food critic Henry Southan wasn’t too impressed with the pub grub.
Henry, 26, shot to fame on ITV’s reboot of Big Brother in 2023, where he found love with fellow housemate Jordan before they split up. The TV star dined at Clarkson’s pub on Father’s Day and says he had to contend with massive queues.
Taking to TikTok with his review, Henry showed a clip of the busy car park. He said: “It’s like arriving at Glastonbury – this is the overflow car park. I am in a field far away from the pub and I am having to trek to the pub even with a reservation.”
He headed towards the boozer, reports the Mirror, and said: “This better be the best roast I have ever eaten to justify the pain of just parking and getting here. I am being a proper moaner right now I’m sorry but it’s just crazy.”
Henry filmed the lengthy queues and wasn’t too sure if he could skip the queue as he’d booked a reservation inside. He said: “There is a massive queue out the door – do I have to queue in that even if I have a reservation for now?”
Eventually, they got inside and tucked into a £26 roast dinner. Henry admitted he was less than impressed with the meat as it was dry.
In a clip, he told his dad: “You were right about the beef it is really dry! The pork is also really dry!”. In the caption of his clip, he said: “Jeremy Clarkson’s pub was… interesting.”
Henry’s review got a mixed reaction, with some social media users agreeing with his complaints and others defending the Top Gear star’s pub. One wrote: “It’s a weird vibe in there. Food is mid.”
Another hit back: “Sir.. he opened a rural pub that serves British farm food not a fancy restaurant for the rich.” Henry feared he might be the next customer to be banned from the pub – as he’s got a list of people not allowed back.
Jeremy’s pub recently hit the headlines over its strict menu policy. One reviewer complained: “drinks are limited, no cola, pepsi, lemonade or coffee”, while another complained about the supposed lack of seasonings: “(I) asked for some pepper and was told, ‘sorry no!!'”.
Another grumbled: “Sadly they do not have pepper or coffee – both items I really missed. It was strange not to have a coffee after my meal, and I always have pepper on my veg,”
Jeremy said he wants to support local farmers and producers and that it’s costing him a lot of money to do so. He said he’s possible that he’s losing money by charging people less than he should do for the British food in order to make a profit.
“Now, a business-minded person would look at these costs and realise that with British-only rules in place, a hotdog was going to be priced at about £45,” he wrote.
“But I’m not a business-minded person. So I just filled my heart with hope, asked an AI program to work out what the average price of lunch in a Cotswolds pub is and just charged that. It’s possible that for every customer who comes through the door I’d lose about £10.”
