It’s 17 years since Killing Eve sensation Jodie Comer landed her first ever small screen role, a part as a troubled teenager in the medical drama The Royal Today

Jodie Comer’s first ever TV role has resurfaced, as the star celebrates her birthday.

And it’s a long way from where she started with a part in The Royal Today. Jodie, who grew up in Liverpool, landed a part in the spin-off of medical drama The Royal in 2008.

She was 14 at the time and although she had been training at a weekend drama school, it was her first screen part and proved to be her entry into the industry.

Jodie played a troubled teenager called Leanne, and looked totally different to today, with a sweeping fringe and her long hair in a ponytail. Leanne claimed to be at the hospital to see her grandmother, but it later turned out that she had actually run away from home.

In one tense scene that showcased her skills, she became annoyed at a social worker being contacted and yelled at a nurse.

More TV roles followed, and in the years after The Royal Today, Jodie appeared on shows including Holby City, Waterloo Road, Doctors, Casualty and Silent Witness.

She had a long run in psychological thriller television series Doctor Foster, which starred Suranne Jones. She played a character named Kate Parks and appeared in nine episodes between 2015 and 2017.

In 2018 she bagged the role of Villanelle in Killing Eve, sharing the screen with Grey’s Anatomy star Sandra Oh. She told the BBC of signing up: “Everything attracted me to Villanelle.

“I expected her to be one thing and she was the total opposite. I read ‘assassin’ and immediately thought of a sexy woman in a catsuit scaling walls in six-inch heels, but Villanelle felt more real than that.

“She has a sense of humour and makes mistakes, which are so relatable.”

“She gets away with murder, quite literally, but I love her,” added the star.
