Comedian John Bishop has spoken out after being present at Liverpool’s Premier League title parade before a car crashed into a crowd of people on Water Street
John Bishop was at the Liverpool parade and has spoken out after the crash incident.
The comedian has voiced his shock after a car ploughed into a crowd of fans during Liverpool’s Premier League title celebrations. Emergency services rushed to the city centre following reports of a car driving recklessly through crowds on Water Street, striking several individuals.
Merseyside Police have confirmed the arrest of a 53 year old man, while it has been reported that 27 people were hospitalised with two individuals, including one child, seriously injured.
Comedian John Bishop, who was present at the parade earlier in the day, has since spoken out about the dreadful incident on social media.
Posting on Instagram, John said: “I was at the parade today with my dad and like everyone else, I am shocked and heartbroken about the events at the end of the Liverpool parade. My heart goes out to all those affected. Our anthem could not be more appropriate, You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
Following the incident, police have urged the public “not to speculate on the circumstances” surrounding the crash in an official statement. They added: “We can confirm the man arrested is a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area. Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision,” reports the Mirror.
“We would ask people not to share distressing content online but to send the footage or information directly to us @MerPolCC or pass on information by calling 101 quoting log 784. Information can also be passed on anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
Liverpool FC took to their social media account to comment on the incident, stating: “We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident. We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident.”
