Babygirl actor Harris Dickinson, who is set to play John Lennon in a series of biopics about the Beatles, has confessed that he used to “love” working as a bin man in London
John Lennon actor Harris Dickinson says he preferred collecting rubbish.
Before he hit the big time Harris, who is set to play the Imagine singer in Sir Sam Mendes’s forthcoming quartet of Beatles biopics, said he used to pick up rubbish and he loved the job.
Dickinson, who rose to fame after starring alongside Nicole Kidman in Babygirl, said it gave him a sense of ‘satisfaction,’ made him ‘feel good’ and carried less pressure than being a movie star.
The 28-year-old said being a binman was one of a number of jobs he took to earn cash while trying to find acting roles, including working in a bar and as a shop assistant for an iconic high street clothing brand.
“I was auditioning quite a lot while simultaneously working in a bar and I was working in the basement of Hollister, which was rough,” he said.“Then I was working at London Bridge in control of the bins in the park, which I loved. That was a good job. Outside, tidy the bin up, feel good about it. There’s satisfaction there!”
Harris, who grew up in east London and got into acting after his mum signed him up to a summer school, has stayed tight-lipped about the Beatles films which are to be released in 2028.
The actor, who will star alongside Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, admitted he was feeling a lot of pressure ahead of the role. Harris also admitted he found his sex scenes in hit movie Babygirl – in which his intern character seduces 57-year-old Nicole Kidman’s company chief executive after dancing to George Michael’s hit Father Figure – embarrassing.
“I am a very embarrassed person as well and I don’t know why I act. I love acting but sometimes I’m like: ‘Oh God, what have I done to myself?’ It’s humiliating, isn’t it?”
“I think I had to have a little bit of a drink that day to be honest with you.”
Film fans will also recognise Harris from Triangle of Sadness, The Iron Claw and Where The Crawdads Sing just to name a few of his projects.
He was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead after starring in 2017’s Beach Rats and later went on to play John Paul Getty III in the 2018 FX series Trust.
Dickinson has also received two BAFTA Award nominations. Before his Hollywood career, Harris was tempted to start a career in the Royal Marines but was persuaded to return to stardom by his coach.
