Kendrick Lamar has taken to the stage at the Super Bowl halftime show in the US but fans have slammed his performance as ‘boring’ and ‘worst in history’ even after he peformed the Drake diss
Kendrick Lamar has been slammed by fans for performing the “worst ever” halftime show at the Super Bowl.
The ‘Not Like Us’ rapper, 37, was plagued with sound issues at the start and throughout the performance during halftime of the showdown between Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Fresh from his Grammy wins, expectations were even higher for the performance, and it started strong with none other than Samuel L Jackson introducing Kendrick in full Uncle Sam get up.
The performance kicked off with ‘Squabble Up’, swiftly followed by ‘HUMBLE’, as Kendrick’s dancers all wore red, white, and blue, echoing the American flag.
Meanwhile, Kendrick kept it cool in blue jeans, a cap, and a slick leather football jacket.
However, fans took to social media to express their disappointment.
One wrote: “Kendrick Lamar’s performance is an absolute snooze fest. Who approved this b******t for a Super Bowl Halftime show? This might be the worst Super Bowl Halftime show of all time.”
Another described it as an “overall 3/10 performance.”
Fans were left frustrated as they struggled to hear rap icon Kendrick Lamar during his much-anticipated performance. While showcasing his skills on the field, viewers took to social media to vent their displeasure.
One fan moaned on X, “Kendrick’s mic being quieter than everything else is really putting a damper on this performance.”
Upon confirmation of his headline act for the Super Bowl halftime show, Kendrick expressed his intention to prove a point, saying, “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one.”
Kendrick was joined onstage by SZA for two songs, but fans were not happy with her either, as some accused her of lipsyncing.
Despite the allure of headlining the Super Bowl show, Lamar will not receive any payment for his appearance.
However, the global exposure from the show, watched by millions, makes it a coveted slot for artists. An NFL spokesperson laid it out to Forbes back in 2016, saying, “We do not pay the artists. We cover expenses and production costs.”
Kendrick’s act, lasting between 12 and 15 minutes, falls within the Super Bowl halftime window of roughly 30 minutes, offering the crew a mere quarter-hour to prep the stage for this eagerly-awaited gig.
