Liam Gallagher was booed by some fans at the huge Oasis homecoming show at Heaton Park in Manchester, as he made a special dedication to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola
Rock legend Liam Gallagher faced a chorus of boos during Oasis’s homecoming show at Manchester’s Heaton Park.
But, unsurprisingly, the jeers weren’t aimed at the music – it was all about football. Liam and his brother Noel, reunited on stage, received a hero’s welcome as they kicked off their performance on Friday night. However, things took a brief pause when Liam made a special dedication, saying: “I’d like to dedicate this to the greatest manager of all time, Mr Pep Guardiola.”
The mention of the Manchester City manager sparked a mixed reaction, with some in the crowd booing, reports the Manchester Evening News. Liam shot back: “Who you f***ing booing, who you f***ing booing.”
On stage, a life-sized cut-out of Pep, sporting a Man City scarf, was met with laughter from the audience, and Liam launched into a rousing performance of D’You Know What I Mean.
Pep himself was spotted backstage, posing for photos with members of the Gallagher family, including Noel’s daughter and Liam’s sons, ahead of the band’s headline set. Earlier in the programme, Noel dedicated a performance to Manchester’s own – The Royle Family’s creators, comedians Caroline Aherne and Craig Cash.
Gene, 24, shared a picture of the Gallaghers with Pep on his Instagram page with the caption: “Pic of the century alright now everyone else can f*** off.”
Gene’s mum, Liam’s ex-wife Nicole Appleton, was among the comments, sharing a love heart emoji and a smiling face. Her sister Natalie said: “Fabulous photo!! Cousins.”
Gene appears to be wearing a jacket similar to the one worn by Liam at the band’s legendary Maine Road gigs in 1996.
Catalonian Guardiola was seen wearing denim shorts and a retro Man City shirt as he stopped for pictures with support act Richard Ashcroft as he enjoyed backstage VIP access.
In the meantime, those without tickets have been finding creative ways to partake in the festivities – including locals who are basking in the atmosphere from the comfort of their own gardens.
How to get Oasis tickets
Sites such as viagogo, Stubhub, and Vivid Seats allow fans to buy resale tickets from other fans. However, it is important to note that ticket conditions often prohibit resale after initial purchase. Those tickets may not be valid for admittance to gigs.
Fans intending to buy tickets for live events through resale websites should check the ticket terms and conditions, to confirm whether resale is prohibited, before they buy. Ticket terms and conditions can be checked with the original seller, such as Ticketmaster or Live Nation. If resale is prohibited, tickets bought second-hand could be voided and admission to the event refused.
