Maya Henry has spoken out for the first time since her ex-fiancé Liam Payne died, as she made a number of shocking claims about the former One Direction singer
Liam Payne’s ex fiancée Maya Henry has broken her silence with some bombshell revelations about her tumultuous times with the tragically deceased star after new developments were made this week.
The former One Direction heartthrob passed away tragically at 31, after a horrifying fall from the third floor of a Buenos Aires hotel last October. At the time, Liam was loved up with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy, who he started seeing in 2022, following an on-off relationship with Maya that began back in 2018.
The pair had even considered getting hitched but now Maya reveals the strains that tormented their would-be fairytale. She laid bare that she endured pain “for years” post-split due to their rocky past. In a fictionalised form, Maya spilled the tea on her experience in her novel, Looking Forward.
Before Liam died, Maya fired off a TikTok accusing him of relentless harassment towards her and her circle via numerous iCloud accounts. Fast forward a few days, and Maya sent a lawyer-led cease and desist demanding he cut out the harassment.
Now, as an influencer turned writer, Maya has opened up about the dark twists in their romance in a detailed statement, dodging specific digs at their relationship history but letting the statement speak volumes. And it seems everyone’s got something to say – with different sources leaking info on Liam’s behaviour, reports the Mirror.
In a candid confession to Rolling Stone, Maya laid bare the devastating impact of Liam’s drug use on their relationship, admitting it was the wedge that drove them apart. She shared her inner turmoil, confessing her deep love for him but also acknowledging the pain he caused in ways she “will never fully understand”.
Maya also disclosed that Liam’s actions continued to wound her long after their split. She said: “On drugs, he became someone unrecognisable – so different from his sober self. I kept hoping each incident would be a wake-up call for him to get help, but it never was. I tried to be there for him. I loved him so much that I convinced myself I could fix things.”
Maya added: “Anyone who has been with an addict understands how difficult that is.”
She detailed her efforts to support Liam, reflecting on her misplaced belief that she could “fix things” and her hope that perseverance might lead to his transformation.
This often led her to “ignoring every red flag” and placing herself in “unsafe” situations. A source close to Maya told the magazine that Liam’s battles with alcohol, drugs, and mental health were “such a burden” that it impeded his ability to work effectively.
The source further claimed that Maya felt “kind of held captive” by his issues, leaving her powerless to “do anything”.
When Maya and Liam split, she discovered the full extent of his addictions. A source claimed it was “normal” for Liam to indulge in “cocaine, ketamine, MDMA, and pharmaceutical pills”.
It’s also been alleged that Liam “got into smoking heroin”.
The publication also alleges that Maya found out she was pregnant in 2020, and Liam ‘gave her an ultimatum’. He reportedly told her either to have an abortion and stay with him or “raise the kid alone and he will not acknowledge either of them”.
This move was a “surprise” to Maya as Liam “wanted to have a family, and they were trying” to conceive. Maya later had an abortion.
Maya hinted at betrayals in their relationship, saying: “I saw the signs; I felt the distance. In the end, it wasn’t just the betrayals or the addictions that broke us – it was the realisation that I had spent years in something that was never what I thought it was. I don’t fault him for his struggles.”
The publication also claims that Maya discovered inappropriate conversations “with strangers” when he “accidentally broadcasted them to their TV”.
Liam and Maya split in 2022 – an insider claimed the influencer was “tired” of “babysitting”. They added: “Maya spent years helping and staying by the side of Liam, who in return wouldn’t get help or seek help for his drug use, violent outbursts, or addictions.”
In her poignant statement, Maya expressed her anguish following the split, saying she “left with nothing but emptiness”. Detailing her unwavering support for Liam during his most challenging times, Maya admitted to standing by him “in his darkest moments” and enduring things that “through things that broke her in ways she can’t explain”.
With a firm resolve, she declared: “But what I do know is this: It wasn’t about me or anything I did. It was about struggles beyond my control. And in the end, I had to choose myself. I had to walk away, no matter how much it hurt, because staying in his world meant losing myself.”
After Liam’s passing, Maya shared her additional sorrow: “Even after his death, I’m left with the aftermath of his actions that continue to unfold”. She laid bare the shocking revelations she discovered about Liam’s conduct during their engagement, claiming, “As I’ve uncovered the extent of his non-consensual image sharing – images he acquired during our engagement and shared without my knowledge or consent – I’m faced with the complexity of grieving for someone I cared so deeply about despite the pain they have caused me.”
