Friends of Love Island star Maura Higgins have rallied behind her and have urged people to “calm down” and stop the abuse after Maura’s alleged kiss with Danny Jones
Maura Higgins is “in a bad way” and “really struggling” with the backlash from her alleged kiss with Danny Jones, friends claim.
The Love Island star, 34, appeared to lock lips with married McFly star Danny Jones, 38, at Universal Music’s afterparty last weekend. Footage from The Sun seemed to show the pair sharing a brief smooch by a curtain at the party, at 180 Studios on the Strang in London.
Maura has just jetted off to Los Angeles in the wake of the scandal – reportedly for a photoshoot. Her friends have now rallied behind her and claimed she’s “in a bad way” and “really struggling” with the aftermath of the alleged drunken kiss.
A friend told the Mirror: “Maura is a tough character but the reaction to events of the last week has been utterly relentless, and it’s fair to say it’s taken its toll. She has found all of this very difficult to navigate. She appreciates she’s in the public eye and there is extra interest around her, but the abuse is off the charts, and people need to calm down.”
The friend said the last week has been “horrendous” as she has been the subject of “horrific” trolling on social media because of it. They added: “She is trying to treat things as business as usual, but it’s hard.”
The video, believed to have been taken just before 3am, appears to show former I’m A Celeb co-stars Maura and Danny standing by a foyer and leaning in for a brief kiss by the curtains as they engage in conversation. According to The Sun, a source claimed: “Danny and Maura seemed to be having a great time. They looked like they had a brief drunken kiss.
“Danny and Maura seem to have a close friendship after meeting in the jungle. They were talking and laughing for ages.”
It comes after a second video emerged which appeared to show the pair at another afterparty at the Nobu Hotel in Marylebone. An onlooker said: “Danny and Maura seemed to be enjoying their night of partying. They were knocking back wine at the Nobu from 4am and seemed keen to carry on. They weren’t seen leaving before 6am.”
It’s reported Danny is having crisis talks with his wife Georgia, a former Miss England and podcaster, in a bid to save their marriage of 11 years. A source told the Mirror: “Everyone would understand why Danny and his wife have been quiet. They are likely working through various discussions from the first video that was released alone. With this second video, Danny needs to now speak out.
“Maura is getting a lot of the backlash and Danny seems to be getting away with his actions as a husband who was supposed to have been in love with his wife for over a decade. Danny’s career should be halted at this point and he should be big enough to now speak out to everyone and explain what has happened and take some accountability.”
Georgia has just missed an appearance on her Mum’s The Word! podcast that she hosts with her friend Kelsey Parker. The instalment became available online today (March 10) and features Love Island star Olivia Bowen. She opened up to Kelsey about pregnancy and pregnancy loss, but Georgia was nowhere to be seen.
Nor was she mentioned in the description of the episode, a description of which read: “In this deeply personal episode of Mum’s The Word, Kelsey Parker is joined by the courageous Olivia Bowen in her first podcast interview since revealing the heartbreaking loss of one of her twins mid-pregnancy.” It comes after Georgia reportedly missed a Q&A with Kelsey at The Baby Show in London.
A body language expert has also weighed in on what they saw in the video, telling the Daily Star that it looked as if there was “nothing sensual between them”. Speaking on behalf of Casino.org, she told Daily Star: “Danny and Maura’s kisses wouldn’t really register as notable for either of them. Whether drunk or sober, the kisses appear meaningless from a romantic standpoint.
She added: “Their lips meet, but they’re still not touching with the rest of their bodies, not hugging, not leaning on each other; there’s nothing sensual between them. They do appear to be locking lips, but the fact that their arms, legs, and torsos do not meet suggests that there is less to that kiss than meets the eye.
