The Met Gala red carpet has played host to a number of high-profile couples over the years, with a few making their first public appearance together at the event before splitting up
The Met Gala “curse” as struck a number of famous A-list couples.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has seen countless stars grace its venue over the years but interestingly, quite a few high-profile couples decided to go their separate ways after making their Met Gala debut.
Celebs like Selena Gomez, Barry Keoghan and Kylie Jenner have previously flaunted their fresh relationships at the gala, before parting ways with their partners.
Perhaps most famously, singer-songwriter Sabrina Carpenter and actor Barry Keoghan are among the latest ex-couples who split after attending the even. They were spotted together at last year’s event in May, following rumours of their link-up months earlier reports the Mirror.
However, reports surfaced three months later that Sabrina and Barry had called it quits after a seemingly short-lived romance.
Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid first dazzled the Met Gala red carpet together in 2016, marking a rare public outing for the former One Direction star and the supermodel. After a brief split, they rekindled their love in 2019 and welcomed a baby in 2020 before ultimately going their separate ways in 2021.
In 2017, Selena Gomez and fellow musician The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, officially became an item. They made their relationship public at the Met Gala, however by October of that year, they had ended their romance.
Jennifer Lopez and ex-baseball pro Alex Rodriguez made their first red carpet appearance as a couple at the 2017 Met Gala following months of speculation about their relationship. Over the course of four years, J-Lo and A-Rod attended the annual event three times and eventually called it quits in 2021.
Riverdale co-stars Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse confirmed their off-screen romance when they debuted as a couple on the Met Gala red carpet in 2018. They returned to the event in 2019, but announced their breakup the following year.
Reality TV queen Kylie Jenner and rapper Travis Scott first flaunted their romance at the fashion bash in 2018, just a few months after they welcomed their first child in February of that year. The ex-lovers, who rocked up to the event again in 2019, reportedly called it quits in 2023 following a rocky five-year relationship.
Elon Musk and singer-songwriter Grimes also chose the Met Gala for their red carpet debut. They were snapped together at the swanky do in 2018.
Fast forward four years to 2022 and reports emerged that the couple, now parents to three kids, had gone their separate ways.
Sarah Silverman and actor Michael Sheen attended in May 2014, not long after they became an item. The pair continued to date for another three years before announcing in 2018 that they’d split.
Actor Robert Pattinson and singer-songwriter FKA Twigs were spotted together at the event in 2015. It was later reported that they’d gone their separate ways two years later in 2017.
