Celebrity Big Brother star and former MP Sir Michael Fabricant has seemingly revealed the truth behind his mysterious blonde barnet, following years of speculation
Celebrity Big Brother star Sir Michael Fabricant has finally addressed his mysterious blonde locks.
The former Tory MP entered the house on Monday night (April 7), where he joined the likes of controversial Hollywood star Mickey Rourke, EastEnders legend Patsy Palmer and eighties music icon Chesney Hawkes, who admitted he would likely be seen naked around the house.
Unfortunately, he’s been tipped as the least likely housemate to win the series, with online casino Betfred giving him just 33/1 odds. Love Island star Chris Hughes currently has 3/1 odds of winning.
Michael’s blonde barnet has sparked speculation for years during his Westminster career, but despite many believing it’s a wig, he’s always denied this to be the case. The 74-year-old once conceded that his hair has been a little ‘enhanced’, but never divulged any more detail.
Back in 2014, he told the Mirror: “It’s a lot more complicated than that. OK, all I will admit to is that there is some – but only some – enhancement of the follicular area.” He never said how much or where this “enhancement” had taken place.
The politician has now re-addressed rumours about his Boris-esque locks – and seemed to hint that it may actually be a wig after all. He did this in his VT before entering the Celebrity Big Brother house, where he was met by rather a lot of boos from the live audience.
He said: “I can show you the receipts, it cost a fortune.” Although the remark didn’t confirm that he was wearing a wig, it did reveal that he’d spent a lot of money on his hairdo – and that not all of it was natural.
Michael’s hair became an unlikely topic of conversation during Prime Minister’s Questions back in 2019. MP Huw Merriman was caught on camera referencing the hairdo, muttering “definitely a wig” to Kelly Tolhurst, the MP sitting next to him.
The clip spread on social media, and was unfortunately spotted by Michael himself, who was far from amused. Michael later told the BBC: “Huw is pretty short-sighted, he’s a relatively new member of Parliament – bless – he didn’t know that PMQs is actually televised. And I’m sure if he did, he would have behaved in a more grown-up way.”
Asked why he wanted to take part in Celebrity Big Brother, Michael said: “Meeting interesting people and having good conversations. Having some fun and to find out what it’s like being trapped with people I don’t know!”
Asked how he would get on with his fellow housemates, he replied: “It’s difficult to say. If they’re bright, amusing, interesting it’ll be great. I’m a light sleeper so if they have some funny nighttime habits, that could be a problem.
“So no snorers, please. I think boredom is my biggest fear – not having enough stimulation.”
Last year, Ibiza Weekender star David Potts won the series. His line-up included the likes of Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh, Colson Smith and several other notable names.
This year’s series has already seen several changes, one of which is a change in location. The Big Brother house has been moved to a “brand-new secret location” and also given a makeover.
