Hollywood actor Mickey Rourke is reported to be weighing up pursuing legal action against ITV after he was removed from the Celebrity Big Brother house at the weekend
Mickey Rourke is reportedly exploring legal action against ITV over his Celebrity Big Brother stint.
The Hollywood actor, 72, left the reality show at the weekend, with the broadcaster saying it followed “use of inappropriate language” and “instances of unacceptable behaviour”. It came days after Big Brother had slapped him with a formal warning over comments he made to JoJo Siwa regarding her sexuality.
According to TMZ, Mickey’s rep Kimberly Hines has said his team is in contact with lawyers in the UK and “weighing” up a lawsuit against ITV. She claimed that the Wrestler star did not actually agree to quit the fly on the wall show and that he was removed a day before he would have been eligible for a bigger payout, suggesting he was being “unjustly” denied the money.
Hines also claimed that the actor had been stuck with a hefty hotel bill. She said Mickey was supposed to be given first class accommodation in London, with the hotel he booked into costing an eye-watering $50,000, but that on the way they were told ITV would only pay up to $300 a night.
Mickey first found himself in hot water on the show after his remarks to dancer JoJo sparked anger. She had shared that she was a lesbian and had a non-binary partner and the actor told her: “If I stay longer than four days, you won’t be gay anymore.”
“I can guarantee I’ll still be gay and I’ll still be in a very happy relationship,” she replied.
Mickey also discussed how he was going to “vote out the lesbian” in earshot of JoJo and she accused him of being homophobic. He then used slang word for cigarette, which is also used as a slur about LGBT people when he was talking about smoking.
Big Brother gave him a warning and he later apologised, with the pair making up. But days later the show announced that the Oscar-nominated actor had left the house.
Mickey’s exit came after inappropriate behaviour to housemates Ella Rae Wise and Chris Hughes. He used sexual language towards The Only Way Is Essex star Ella and some of his language and behaviour towards Love Islander Chris was deemed to be “threatening and aggressive”.
A spokesperson said: “Mickey Rourke has agreed to leave the Celebrity Big Brother House this evening following a discussion with Big Brother regarding further use of inappropriate language and instances of unacceptable behaviour.”
Mickey apologised as he was told he was being removed, saying: “I’m sorry.” He went on: “I can’t take it back, you know, I stepped over the line. And I take responsibility for doing the wrong thing.
“‘Cause I lost my temper, and I’ve been trying to work on it my whole life and I wish I would have had better self-control and I’m very sorry. I’m ashamed of myself for losing it for a few seconds there.
“Nobody got touched or hurt. Maybe some feelings got hurt or maybe others have feelings about others getting upset but, you know, I’m sorry about that.”
Daily Star has contacted ITV and a representative for the actor for comment.
