Cinemas are ramping up the noise with the Minecraft Movie Block Party Edition, which will encourage attendees to get as loud as they can — here’s what we know.
A Minecraft Movie is a box office hit, and while it is based on one of the most popular video games of all time, there’s also the kind of viral moment that no one could have predicted — the Chicken Jockey meme.
That’s helped it to become a runaway success, and Warner Bros is preparing for a second offensive with the new Block Party edition.
Seemingly inspired by the raucous screenings that have seen viewers bringing live chickens into screenings and throwing popcorn, the Block Party Edition of A Minecraft Movie will ask fans to make as much noise as possible.
Here’s all we know about the release, as we pray for those in the screenings next door.
Minecraft Movie: Block Party Edition explained
“Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures invite fans back to the theatre to experience A Minecraft Movie together in a whole new way!” a statement explains.
“You know the moments. You know the lines. You love the songs! Now it’s time to get loose, laugh out loud and belt out those lyrics like a true diamond-tier fan”, it continues.
It follows criticism of moviegoers making a mess and getting too loud after the well-documented Chicken Jockey, but it seems Warner Bros is now leaning into it.
Expect to see the Block Party Edition popping up when booking your tickets to the movie, and be sure to get the right one.
The movie’s director Jared Hess has released a statement about the situation. “It’s weird when you’re having too much fun and the cops get called,” said Hess.
“It’s funny because I think it’s just literally cheering and throwing popcorn, which is so funny to me that cops are getting called for popcorn. Yeah, it’s hilarious. I’ve seen so many funny videos.
“It’s great, especially when people are climbing on their friends’ shoulders and standing up and cheering for those moments. It’s like this crazy anticipation. But, man, I’m just glad people are making memories with their friends and families.”
