Billy Joel has been forced to pull out of multiple tour dates after falling on stage during a show.

It’s been a tough start to 2025 for rockers – Eagles legend Don Felder was rushed off stage after a medical emergency during his gig, Travis frontman Fran Healy had to be rushed to the hospital after a nasty injury, and Bryan Adams had to cancel his gig due to a huge sewer blockage.

Music legend Billy Joel, 75, was due to perform two UK shows later this year, at Edinburgh’s Scottish Gas Murrayfield on June 6 and at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium on June 21. The exclusive UK shows were to be his first performances in the UK in a whopping 46 years.

Sadly, however, the iconic rocker has had to postpone the concerts due to an undisclosed “medical condition” and “recent surgery”. A statement from Joel’s team read: “Billy Joel’s upcoming concert dates will be rescheduled due to a medical condition.

“The current tour will be postponed for four months to allow him to recover from recent surgery and to undergo physical therapy under the supervision of his doctors. Joel is expected to make a full recovery. The tour will resume at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on July 5, 2025.”

Billy revealed his sadness at having to pull out of the shows but told fans he needed to put his health first. In a statement, he wrote: “While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first.

“I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans. Thank you for your understanding.”

Liverpool FC – who play at Anfield – also confirmed the news, and reassured fans who had purchased tickets for the concert that the show has been postponed to next year. An update on their website read: “Liverpool FC can confirm the postponement of this summer’s Billy Joel concert at Anfield, due to a medical condition and to allow him to recover from recent surgery.

“That date has been rescheduled, and Billy Joel will now appear at Anfield on June 20, 2026 instead. He is expected to make a full recovery and the tour will resume at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on July 5, 2025.”

Joel will also play his rescheduled show in Edinburgh on June 6, 2026. Eight dates have been rescheduled in total, including shows in Detroit and Toronto in the States, which will span November of this year until the summer of next.

Joel’s surgery comes after he fell on stage during the encore section of his gig at Mohegan Sun Arena in Stamford, Connecticut on February 22. The Piano Man was singing his hit It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me and twirling his microphone when he tumbled over, in worrying scenes caught by a fan.

The star, described as “frail” at the show, sparked concern among concertgoers when he lost his footing and fell directly onto his back. His band members rushed over to help him and attendees said Joel managed to sing his final song to end the gig.

However, they claimed he was “visibly thrown off” by the fall. “He just didn’t look well hobbling across the stage,” one concerned fan said.

Fans have since rushed to wish the singer well on his recovery, with one writing: “Get better soon! I shall see you in approximately 369 days. My love won’t waver – I’ll be sad for a day just get better. Toronto remains true.”
