A priest from County Mayo, Ireland, told his parishioners to watch Meghan Markle’s new show With Love, Meghan as penance for Lent, as he branded it “bloody awful”.

The new Netflix doc shows the Duchess of Sussex sharing cooking and hosting tips, but has been subject to intensely negative reviews. Balla priest Friar Brendan Kilcoyne highlighted a scene where Meghan talks to a beekeeper, sarcastically describing the chat as “riveting” and claiming that the bees were “mortified”.

The friar deemed the Duchess a “nemesis” and “anti-monarchy”, thanking God she was in Montecito with her “poor, deluded noggins of a husband.”

Fr Kilcoyne said the royals had a lucky escape from Meghan, saying: “The great line that has given us so many English kings and queens – from an Irish Catholic point of view, perhaps of varying attractiveness – it does not deserve this. It had a narrow escape.”

He added: “Say what you like about the husband and others – he is a former and distinguished soldier, as are his uncles, as was his father,’ the rant continued. ‘They do not deserve to be connected like this to somebody who is clearly operating at such a shallow level.”

Fr Kilcoyne advised Catholics to “drink in the mediocrity and savour the narrow escape that one of the most distinguished royal lines in the world has just had”.

The doc has a measly rating of 36% on Rotten Tomatoes, and has received scathing reviews from viewers.

RuPaul’s Drag Race star Katya said on X: “This With Love, Meghan show on Netflix is the most deranged f****** thing I have ever seen.”

One Google reviewer said: “Every painstakingly staged interaction and meticulously curated “life hack” turns even the most mundane task into a ridiculously absurd tribute to her self-proclaimed genius.”

Despite criticism, Netflix has announced the show is being renewed for a second season and, according to People, it has already been filmed and will hit the streaming platform this Autumn.

Meghan announced on social media: “If you’re loving Season 1, just wait until you see the fun we cooked up on Season 2!

“Thanks for joining the party, and an endless thanks to the amazing team and crew who helped bring it all to life!”

Not everyone was critical of the Duchess’ show, however, with many taking inspiration from her recipes and “life-hacks”.

One X user said: “Watching Meghan just being herself, so positive and joyful, cooking with her friends is the best thing.”
