Comedian and Netflix star Jeff Ross has been hospitalised after a severe allergic reaction.

Ross suffered a horror health scare over the weekend after trying some burrata ice cream and suffering his first ever allergic reaction. He took to Instagram on Sunday (April 7) with snaps of his swollen face and lip, and was seen lying on a hospital bed.

He had finished the opening night performance of his one-man show, Take a Banana for the Ride in California and had been enjoying some food at a nearby restaurant when things took a scary turn. However, he reassured fans he wouldn’t let the allergic reaction get in the way of his next show.

He told fans: “ROAST ME. TONIGHT’S SHOW NEAR SAN FRANCISCO MUST GO ON ! Had such a fun opening night performance of @takeabananafortheride up here in Mill Valley, California @throckmortontheatre.

“Afterwards, me and the band celebrated with some Burata ice cream at a restaurant down the street courtesy of the nice owner. It was delicious. Seriously yummy.”

He continued: “My lips blew up and I spent the entire night in the ER. It was my first allergic reaction ever. I guess that’s pretty remarkable considering I’m constantly shoving whatever food is in front of me into my face.

“Thank you to the overnight shift at MarinHealth Medical Center for only roasting me a lightly.” He couldn’t resist a dig at Celebrity Big brother star Mickey Rourke as he quipped: “DESPITE LOOKING LIKE MICKEY ROURKE at the end of The Wrestler…

“I WILL BE TAKING A NAP AND BACK ON STAGE HERE IN MILL VALLEY NEAR SAN FRANCISCO AT 730pm TONIGHT.” He signed off with a series off banana skin emojis.

Jeff’s fellow comedians were quick to take the opportunity to roast him and rushed to the comments. “Didn’t even notice a difference,” joked Josh Wolf.

“The real housewives are asking for your beauty tips,” quipped Alex Hooper. Kelly Rizzo, widow of late actor Bob Saget, wrote: “Oh no! How dare burrata do that to you!?!? Hope you’re better already! Love you!”

One fan joked: “Like Nick Kroll and Judd Apatow had a baby. Your show title has been changed to Take an EpiPen for the Ride.” A second said: “I never knew you actually wanted to play the bruised banana for your tour.

“Seriously though,” they added. “May Greg Giraldo send every guardian angel to speed your recovery. We love you!.”

It is unclear what caused the allergic reaction. Burrata ice cream is a frozen dessert which incorporates burrata – an Italian cheese typically made with mozzarella and cream – into the ice cream base.
