A newsreader was dealt some devastating news before giving birth.

Fox News’ Kat Timpf has revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer just hours before delivering her first child. The 36 year old telly favourite powered through her third trimester on air, but was given a devastating blow on what should have been a happy moment.

In an emotional Instagram post this Tuesday, she announced the arrival of her son last week. A mere 15 hours before going into labour with hubby Cameron Friscia’s baby she got the shattering breast cancer diagnosis.

“Last week, I became a mother. Just 15 hours before I went into labour, I was told I had breast cancer,” she shared. “The doctors have diagnosed it as stage zero and are optimistic that it hasn’t spread.”

The newsreader took to social media to share the unfortunate news

Kat recounted the tumultuous day she received her diagnosis, using humour to navigate the flood of emotions: “I was already more than a week past my due date and completely focused on trying everything to get the baby out,” she recalled.

“By the afternoon, I found myself juggling appointments, cracking jokes about how to get rid of the cancer, all while waddling around,” reports the Mirror.

The pair recently welcomed a son together

The Fox News icon was overdue when she finally gave birth and described the chaotic day as “not chill.” She continued: “I asked all the questions I could, including if I could get a copy of my tumour ultrasound to put on the fridge next to the ultrasound of my baby,” she quipped.

She also told fans that doctors are urging her to have a double mastectomy sooner rather than later: “These next three months of maternity leave are going to look a lot different than I’d anticipated, and I’m still getting used to my new reality.”

Kat bravely spoke out about the diagnosis during her first few days as a mother

“I’m lucky that we found the cancer so early; I’m lucky to be my son’s mom. I mean, I know I’m biased, but the little dude absolutely rules – and not just because he might have saved my life.”

Finishing off her announcement, the new mum raised a virtual glass to “finding humor and hope on the toughest days.”
