Noel and Liam Gallagher use odd trick to ‘protect themselves’ during Oasis tour

Noel and Liam Gallagher are taking no chances with their vocals on the Oasis reunion tour and are using a bizarre trick to make sure they sound at their best

Liam and Noel Gallagher have a surprising technique to preserve their vocal chords while on the Oasis tour.

Both Liam, 52, and Noel, 58, received praise for their vocals after recently performing at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium and the secret to their success reportedly lies in a 30-minute pre-show vocal warm-up, where they utilise a technique called straw phonation.

This involves humming into a paper straw to relax the vocal cords and enhance vocal efficiency. This method can allegedly reduce strain by allowing for a more balanced vibration of the vocal folds.

Noel was spotted blowing into a straw backstage before taking the stage to perform hits like Half The World Away and Little By Little. Meanwhile, Liam has employed this technique for his solo shows over the past few years, reports the Mirror.

A source has revealed: “Noel and Liam are doing everything in their power to ensure they sound at their very best for these mammoth sold-out shows. It is well know that Liam has had issues with his voice in the past and he has found straw phonation to be a great way to warm-up his vocal cords.”

“Noel has been an advocate of it for years since he had issues with his voice when he supported U2 on tour in 2019. It has made a huge difference to how he sings. There will be plenty of paper straws backstage for the brothers, but they won’t be used to sip cocktails.”

Noel previously discussed using the paper straw technique on The Matt Morgan Podcast in 2022, saying: “When I was on tour with U2 and there was a lot of parties.

“At one point, when we were in Australia, my voice was shattered, it was in a bad way. We’d been out late the night before and we had a gig the next day and I woke up and my voice was f***** and wasn’t coming back.”

“To cut a long story short [I was given] this straw, just a normal paper straw, and he said: ‘Half an hour before you go on, in your room, put some music on and put this straw in your mouth and just hum along to whatever comes on and your vocal cords will warm up.”

Noel admitted he “was sceptical” but the “amazing little trick changed his life”.
