Oasis fans will be dusting off their bucket hats and parkas as the Britpop icons make their long-awaited comeback this summer, but one fashion item could leave them with a hefty fine
Oasis enthusiasts have been cautioned that donning a bucket hat behind the wheel during the band’s reunion gigs could land them in hot water, facing a hefty fine.
The Gallagher brothers are set to rock Cardiff on July 4, kicking off a string of sold-out shows that will hit Manchester from July 11 to 12 and wrap up with three days in London at the month’s end before jetting off for a global tour.
Ticket demand has soared through the roof, with fans young and old eager to witness the iconic Oasis pair belt out legendary hits like Live Forever and Wonderwall.
Liam and Noel’s much-anticipated return to the stage is set to be the backdrop to a summer of Oasis. As well as the music, the Britpop band members are famed for their distinctive fashion taste – from parker jackets to Adidas trainers.
A must-have accessory for gig-goers will undoubtedly be the bucket hat, immortalised by the Mancunian rock stars throughout their illustrious career, reports the Manchester Evening News.
However, a motoring expert has issued a warning that wearing the trendy headwear while driving could lead to a serious penalty, including a fine and points on your licence.
Graham Conway, managing director of Select Car Leasing, remarked: “While it’s not illegal to wear a hat while you’re driving, there are rules around fashion items obstructing you while behind the wheel.
“Rule 97 of the Highway Code states you must have ‘footwear and clothing which does not prevent you using the controls in the correct manner’, while the Road Traffic Act says that anything obstructing a driver’s view is considered a hazard – including hats.
“And because these bucket hats are generally pulled down low over the eyes to complete the look, that could be a serious problem when it comes to getting a full view of the road.”
Some might say the penalties for breaking the rules are severe.
“You’ll be looking at a £100 fine for having an obstructed view – which could rise to £1,000 if the case goes to court.
The same applies if you are flying flags or banners of your favourite band out of the car windows on your way to a gig.
And while many Oasis fans will favour trendy trainers for watching the Champagne Supernova hitmakers, anyone opting for flip flops could also be in trouble.
That’s because the summer footwear is often frowned upon by authorities as they lack grip and could get jammed under the pedals if they slip off.
