Oasis played their first Manchester gig at Heaton Park on Friday, July 11, and it appears ticketless fans are prepared to do anything to catch a glimpse of their favourite band playing live
Ticketless Oasis fans have stormed the site of the band’s Manchester gig as they played live on the stage, a video shows. Die-hard admirers are seen streaming over a fallen metal fence panel and disappearing behind a line of trees near the poignantly named ‘Gallagher Hill’ in Heaton Park on Saturday (July 12).
The clip also show cops intervening as hundreds of fans realise there is a second line of taller wooden fencing. It was later confirmed the opportunistic Oasis lovers were not able to get into the concert area.
Huge crowds gathered after spotting massive screens behind the band, which had been blasting out their repertoire. It comes after 50 fans tried to jump the fence at the rock band’s first Manchester gig on Friday (July 11).
Desperate to maintain control, police issued a dispersal order around Heaton Park and the surrounding area.
The force said that while there is no immediate risk, safety is the “main priority”.
Manchester Evening News reporter Chris Slater, who was outside Heaton Park talking to fans, said: “An eyewitness has told me that just before Oasis came on stage around 50 people tried to ‘rush’ one of the internal entrances to the gig area. They said around 10 appeared to get in but the rest were apprehended and turned away.”
One man was handcuffed and escorted away by officers while another carried a ladder.
It comes as Oasis fans were left “crying” at a video shared from Heaton Park, with some saying “it was the most beautiful thing [they’ve] ever seen”.
A user shared a video from the crowd of a bunch of lads in bucket hats holding up a disabled man above the crowd, so he could see the stage from their position near the back of the viewing area. In her caption, Jess Kirby wrote: “This is Daniel – he went to night one of Oasis’ concerts with his brilliant sister Jemma.
“He wasn’t able to get disabled access tickets. A lady got our attention and started to ask around to see who was able to help – she was brilliant! My husband is at the back with the grey cap on, but we don’t personally know the other lads – lovely guys though!
“We’ve been lucky to find a few of them through this video! I’ve spoken to Jemma and this was Daniel’s first concert – he had a fantastic time!”
Jess tagged both of the Gallagher brothers and added that: “Music has brought everyone together once again.
“He missed out on disabled access tickets for @oasis night one, we had a great time loved seeing everyone group together for this!”
