Oasis fans have been sent urgent warnings from Heaton Park bosses to stay safe in the hot weather and the site have put in safety measures as they prepare for issues with the extreme heat
An “emergency room” has been set up at Heaton Park ahead of Oasis’s huge homecoming gigs — in case fans get ill in the sunshine.
Gig-goers have been urged to take care as the concerts are being held as Britain bakes in the third scorching heatwave of the summer.
Bosses have urged fans to take water, sun cream and hats into the venue. And while taking food and drink into Heaton Park is strictly prohibited, those attending can, instead, take a collapsible 500ml water bottle to stay hydrated.
However, BBC Radio 2 host Vernon Kay has spotted a tent with rows and rows of medical beds, set up in case fans take ill in the extreme heat.
Sharing a video to his Instagram page, long-time Oasis fan Vernon said: “Here we go, Heaton Park getting ready for those people who refuse to hydrate themselves.
“Come on, gets some electrolytes in your body. We don’t want to see you on any of these mats. These are not for yoga, these are not yoga mats. This is not a sun lounger. These are where people will recover.
“I know you are going to want to have a drink or two but just go steady people. We want to have a good time, we don’t want to see a queue for the beds of doom.”
Some 80,000 fans are expected at the venue on Friday for the first of five huge homecoming gigs, the band’s first shows in Manchester for 16 years.
Tree welfare tents have been set up in total — two to the left of the stage and one to the right, close to the merchandise stand and bar. It comes after a yellow heat health warning was issued for the region.
Heaton Park bosses also put out their own warning, as fans have been entering the site since 3pm. They said: “With a very hot weather forecast on both Friday and Saturday please stay hydrated, you will be permitted to bring a sealed bottle of water up to 500ml. This must be collapsible plastic.
“Wear sunscreen, you will be permitted to bring in a small bottle 200ml or under and protect yourself from the sun overall/wear a hat; we know the legendary bucket hat will be making an appearance, so you’ll fit right in! Look after yourself and those around you.”
