The long-awaited Oasis reunion tour was thanks to Liam and Noel Gallagher’s mum Peggy, who helped the brothers heal their rift. She said she is longing to see the Britpop legends back on stage together
Liam and Noel Gallagher’s mum Peggy has confirmed she was the “instigator” in healing their infamous rift and sparking the Oasis reunion.
She claims to be the reason her two formerly warring sons have “put the past behind them” and paved the way for the long-awaited comeback.
The 82-year-old said it is “great” because “nobody wants their kids falling out, do they?”
Speaking for the first time about her role in the reconciliation, she said: “I was the instigator, yes. But sure, wasn’t it always going to happen at some time or other? It was their choice, of course.
“Look, you can’t force them to do things they don’t want to do. You just have to say ‘get on with it’, and I said that… and say ‘I’ve to look after myself too’.”
Peggy, originally from County Mayo, Ireland, said she is longing to see her famous sons back on stage together after so many years caused by their long and much publicised feud.
She is determined to travel to Dublin to see Liam and Noel take to the stage for a double-header in Croke Park.
“I’m hoping to get to the Oasis concert in Dublin in August if I can hobble around,” she said, referring to her knee replacement.
“That’s my plan anyway, it will be great. I know the Irish fans are thrilled about it.
“There’s great excitement in Ireland about the reunion tour and it will be lovely to see family there.
“I am really looking forward to the Dublin one.”
Peggy was often in the audience when the legendary Britpop band packed venues back in their heyday.
She also hopes to be there for the group’s hotly anticipated homecoming concert in Manchester’s Heaton Park.
Fans have been clamouring for an Oasis reunion ever since the band split in 2009. Their highly-anticipated run of shows starts in Cardiff next month.
Gig-goers will spend an estimated £1 billion during the tour, which is expected to be one of the most profitable in British history.
Wonderwall singer Liam said it showed they were the “best fans in the world”, adding: “You should all be very proud.”
