The BBC period drama came to an end in 2022 with its sixth and final series, but it has now been reported that Peaky Blinders could be set to make a return to TV screens
Hold onto your flat caps, because Peaky Blinders is rumoured to be making a telly comeback with a fresh series after its bombshell finale three years back.
The BAFTA-gobbling gangster epic wrapped up in 2022, telling fans the sixth season was the last ride. But whispers are swirling that not only is a film titled The Immortal Man on the horizon, but also a brand spanking new series set in the ’50s Brum is in the pipeline.
A telly source blabbed to The Sun: “The sixth series of Peaky Blinders was supposed to be the last and the movie was meant to be the final farewell for the story.
“However, the show’s mastermind Steven Knight has been itching to dive back into his most iconic tale – and he’s been letting slip that he’s keen to crank out more.”
Earlier this year, the brains behind the Shelby saga, Steven Knight, talked on BBC Breakfast about the future of the Shelby clan, revealing that the film’s shoot wrapped up in December, reports the Mirror.
“It’s fantastic, I think we’ve got the best British actors all in one place,” he boasted. “It’s a very fitting way to end this part of the Peaky story.” When prodded about what’s next post-film, Steven teased: “It’s not over, let’s just put it that way.”
The Peaky Blinders movie is gearing up to be a right corker with Cillian Murphy slipping back into the dapper duds of Tommy Shelby, and it’s all set to hit Netflix. Joining the gang, we’ve got Dune’s Rebecca Ferguson, Saltburn’s Barry Keoghan, and Pulp Fiction legend Tim Roth jumping aboard for this full-length caper.
Last year, Steven Knight couldn’t contain his excitement: “I’m thrilled to see the cameras rolling on this new chapter of the Peaky Blinders story, set during World War II. The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders.”
And director Tom Harper is buzzing too, saying: “There’s a great feeling of anticipation and excitement amongst our outstanding cast and crew.”
He promised the fans, “We’re grateful to the fans for getting us to this point and believe this next chapter is going to deliver something extraordinary.”
