Pitbull has become the most unlikely idol for Gen Z women – and it might explain why so many people have been walking around in bald caps for the last week. Let’s explain more
People are only just realising why women have been wearing bald caps and suits this week – and there’s good reason for it.
If you’ve been in any major UK city this week or have been waiting on your local train platform, then you’ve probably noticed, mostly young, women waltzing about in the fancy dress head piece.
And if you’re not ‘down with the kids’ then you’ve probably questioned why on earth Gen Z women are choosing to transform themselves into bald blokes, moustache and all.
It turns out it’s all down to one man, and that man is Pitbull. Yes, the singer that has provided us with classic party hits like ‘Hotel Room Service’, ‘Timber’ and ‘Time of Our Lives’ has become the latest idol for young women all over Europe – especially in the UK.
To honour their 44-year-old leader on his ‘Party After Dark’ tour, concert disciples decided to dress up as him.
Pitbull, or ‘Mr Worldwide’, finished his second stint at the O2 last night (Tuesday 10), which saw thousands of fans don bald caps, pencil drawn moustaches, black sunglasses, white shirts and black blazers.
Clips of the thousands of Pitbulls’ partying in unison have gone viral on TikTok over the last week and overnight, with bald cap women entering pre-show dance battles outside of the 20,000 capacity arena.
And the same goes for his previous date at Manchester Arena, initially confusing onlookers. “I was so confused walking through town,” one person said, according to M.E.N.
“There was genuinely hundreds of people walking around in black blazers, white shirts and with bald caps either with sunglasses on or drawn-on goatees.
“Then I realised it’s because Pitbull is on. I was so confused. I’ve never seen so many people dressed the same like that for a gig.” Even a local Wetherspoons was rammed with the Pitbull ‘lookalikes’.
So where did this phenomenon all start? Well, no one really knows. Some believe that a few Pitbull fans started to dress as him for concerts a couple of years ago and it grew from there.
The star, real name Armando Christian Pérez, has grown a cult following amongst younger generations on TikTok, much to do with his catchy hits and ‘good time’ attitude.
Some have felt that it’s just a mass attempt to take the mickey out of the star, but Pitbull is laughing with those bald cap-clad. He told the BBC it makes him “very, very happy” to look into the crowd seeing people dressed like him and reciting his lyrics.
Pitbull added: “Every time I’m at a show, I let them know that when you put on a bald cap, I hope you’re ready to have the time of your lives – it feels deeper than just music.”
