People can’t believe what ‘My Parents Are Aliens’ child star looks like today

Danielle McCormack now performs in a “cinematic goth” band called The Gospel, but in the early 2000s she was a very well known face on a children’s ITV programme

TV fans have reacted in disbelief after a child star from the early 2000s took to TikTok having “barely aged a day”.

My Parents Are Aliens was a kids’ sitcom spanning eight series on ITV between 1999 and 2006. The show followed the lives of orphaned children, Mel, Josh and Lucy Barker who are fostered by Brian and Sophie Johnson – aliens who had crash-landed on Earth.

Almost two decades on, Dannielle McCormack, who played Mel, has taken to TikTok to discuss her time on the show. And at 41, the actress turned singer looks completely unrecognisable according to viewers.

“I played Mel, who was the oldest of the three children,” she said in a video that has quickly gone viral having been viewed 1.7 million times. “Mel was a really interesting character because she was sort of known for her very moody personality and her very eclectic, punky dress sense. She was very multifaceted, and there were lots of layers to her.

“I think playing Mel was one of my biggest achievements, just because I think a lot of what she was going through really resonated with people. It’s really nice to hear when people tell me that they were going through a really difficult time and they found comfort in some of Mel’s storylines.”

Mel went on to reveal that the cast recently reunited for the 25th anniversary of the programme – the first time they’d all been in the same room together since filming. “It felt like no time had passed,” she explained.

“I think you always know the sort of connections you have made with someone where you cannot see them for a really long time – and you’re back in the same room as them and it feels like you’re back with exactly the same person.”

Mel closed: “Although we all look a little bit older – I’m not going to lie!” Whilst she might be in her 40s, many of her followers declared she’s barely aged at all. “Wikipedia says you are 41! No way do I believe that, you haven’t aged at all!” one TikTok user exclaimed.

Another penned: “Girl you have not aged, what!” A third person quipped: “I’m here looking like an absolute snail but she’s not aged a day.”

A fourth agreed: “Omg it was my literal favourite show! still watch it occasionally. Mel was such a fashion icon. You really do still look the same.”

Whilst a fifth concurred: “We know exactly who you are and we loved you in and we are wondering how you have not aged a day!”

Today, Danielle performs as a singer and vocalist in five-piece band, The Gospel. Described as “cinematic goth”, the Manchester group are heading out on tour in May, supporting Lene Lovich.
