Greater Manchester Police have said that the first Oasis homecoming gig has passed ‘without incident’ but have arrested a number of people and warned drone users
Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that the first Oasis homecoming concert went off without a hitch, with officers making six arrests for various incidents.
Those detained, aged 20 to 55, were held for drunk and disorderly behaviour, suspected fraud, and suspected possession with intent to supply cannabis. However, officers had their hands full dealing with rogue drone operators. Specialist teams tackled several breaches of air space restrictions around Heaton Park, which are in place from 11am to 11.59pm on each day of the Oasis gigs.
The one-and-a-half nautical mile no-fly zone is strictly enforced, with potential lawbreakers facing prosecution. Police hunted down seven drone pilots, seizing five devices and issuing warnings to two others.
A spokesperson cautioned would-be drone enthusiasts, saying: “Anyone thinking of attempting to get their drone ‘Up In The Sky’ within the restricted air space should be warned that we will not hesitate to act against you.”
Assistant Chief Constable Matt Boyle expressed satisfaction with the evening’s events, stating: “We are really pleased to say that fans attending the concert tonight have been able to do so safely and without incident.”, reports the Manchester Evening News.
With a strong police presence at the venue and across the city, authorities remain vigilant, ready to tackle any anti-social behaviour that may arise. “We would advise all fans travelling to and from the upcoming events to ensure they keep an eye out for information from our partners about transport options and road closures, allow enough time to get to the concert, stay hydrated and look out for each other.
“As always, if you spot anything that seems suspicious, report this to security staff or police immediately.
“This operation is in addition to resources available for anyone in need of police assistance across the whole of Greater Manchester.”
The legendary Manchester band, fronted by Liam and Noel Gallagher, have launched the first of their shows at Heaton Park last night (July 11) with nearly 80,000 fans present – many of whom are locals, while others have journeyed from around the globe for this special gig.
The Manchester gigs, which will run until July 20, follow the first two nights of the Live ’25 tour in Cardiff last week. First announced last summer, the tour marks the first time the Gallagher brothers have shared a stage in almost 16 years – and it’s sent fans into a frenzy of nostalgia and excitement.
How to get Oasis tickets
Sites such as viagogo, Stubhub, and Vivid Seats allow fans to buy resale tickets from other fans. However, it is important to note that ticket conditions often prohibit resale after initial purchase. Those tickets may not be valid for admittance to gigs.
Fans intending to buy tickets for live events through resale websites should check the ticket terms and conditions, to confirm whether resale is prohibited, before they buy. Ticket terms and conditions can be checked with the original seller, such as Ticketmaster or Live Nation. If resale is prohibited, tickets bought second-hand could be voided and admission to the event refused.
