EXCLUSIVE: Radio 1 DJ Charlie Tee recalled her proudest yet “nerve-wracking” career moment was when a fan asked her to help him set up one of the most important days of his life
A Radio 1 star has opened up about one of her most embarrassing career blunders.
Charlie Tee spoke exclusively to Daily Star as she gears up for her drum and bass brand Unitee to return under the Nene Flyover in Peterborough for a huge bank holiday weekend event.
The DJ will be taking over the place once again with a smashing lineup which is set to feature the likes of Mozey, Kings Of The Rollers, Serum, Voltage and loads more, on Sunday 4th May.
One of the last time’s she played at the Peterborough rave venue, she helped set up a proposal for one of her fans. Charlie recalled: “Oh my God, it was actually so nerve wracking! Being responsible for orchestrating one of – if not THE – most important moment in someone’s life, is not something I take lightly.
“The groom messaged me a couple of weeks before saying they’d met at our event a few years back and he wanted to propose there and asked if I could just point to them in the crowd at the end of my set. But there was no way I wasn’t going all out to help him, I love Love!
“So, I had a call with him, and we planned it all out, pretending to get “two ravers” onstage for a photo at the end of my set. I got them both onstage then he proposed with slides we’d made on the screen behind.
“I then played their favourite track at the end, and everyone sang along cheering them on, it was so wholesome! And there were lots of happy tears. One of my favourite and proudest moments of my career.”
Talking about the event, she shared her excitement and said: “I mean… a rave underneath a motorway bridge that’s fully legal, but gives that authentic free party feel, what’s not to love!
“It’s always such a special energy to host our Unitee parties there with UNDER; the punters energy and excitement is so unique because it’s such a special venue. And to my knowledge, we’re the only D&B event under a motorway bridge in the UK!”
