Real Housewife of Potomac Karen Huger will spend a year in jail after she received a shocking verdict today, with her being given a sentence twice as long as expected
Real Housewives star Karen Huger has been jailed after being sentenced her her DUI.
Her jail time is twice as long as expected, with her being given two years in jail, with one year suspended. Prosecutors had asked for the Bravo star to serve six months inside, but the judge decided to give her the highest-possible sentence.
TV personality Karen, 61, must also pay a $2,900 fine, according to court reports from today (February 26). She attended court earlier today with her husband Ray to find out her fate.
She will also not be allowed to drive for a full year after she is allowed out of prison and has been handed five years of supervised probation. The court heard that she will also have to use a breathalyser device to start her personal vehicle.
This follows several convictions for driving under the influence as she crashed her swanky Maserati motor in Maryland back in March 2024. Prosecutors had asked for the Bravo star to serve six months in jail, but the judge gave her the highest-possible sentence. Huger had three previous alcohol-related offenses.
Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Terrence McGann told the TV star she was “filled to the gills with alcohol” as reported by Fox5. Her lawyers had asked for the judge to go easy as she was grieving her parents’ death and struggling with anti-depressants at the time of the collision.
Her legal team said: “Ms. Huger’s mother died on Thanksgiving morning in 2017 of kidney failure and sepsis. Her father died seven months later on June 28, 2018 from the complications of Alzheimer’s and ‘of a broken heart.
“Those two losses, in quick succession, were for Ms. Huger, personally devastating and, in her opinion, may have been the straws that broke her back, arguably leading to several errors in judgment that led to her arrest in this case.”
She was found guilty of driving at a speed too high for the conditions and was charged with a DUI and DWI. However, it wasn’t the star’s first rodeo as in 2016, she told BOSSIP about a run-in 10 years previous.
Karen told the publication: “I [got] pulled over. Technically I wasn’t driving, I was pulled over into a parked area where you should not park. I turned off the car and I called my husband. However, the teddy bear cops found me first, and I collected my DUI.”
