Katie Thurston, who shot to fame on The Bachelorette took to her social media accounts to give the sad update to fans, right after she tied the knot to her new beau Jeff Arcuri
A legend of reality TV has given a crushing update on her health to fans.
Katie Thurston, 34, shot to fame when she was The Bachelorette in 2021, where thirty men were vying for the beauty’s hand in marriage. However, in February, Katie stunned the world when she revealed to her followers that she had been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.
Not one to give up, Katie vowed she would be “up for the fight”, saying that she would be ready to take on the cancer together with her new beau Jeff Arcuri. The pair officially tied the knot with the comedian in a whirlwind wedding on Saturday (March 22).
However, now the couple have been hit with a devastating blow that could spell the end of the pair. After initially being diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, medics have since found spots on her liver – a sign of metastatic disease that could then bring her into stage 4, where the cancer is incurable.
Taking to her social media on Monday (March 23), she explained: “My [liver] biopsy is scheduled Friday which would have been my treatment day; we now wait. She seemed to be leaning more on the cancer in the liver vs. optimistic.
“This would put me at stage 4,” Katie continued. “I’d love to hear from my sisters who are stage 4 in terms of quality of life, motherhood, etc.”
Katie had been due to start a trial with company I-Spy to bring the condition under control. In the trial, she would be due to take a Zoladex injection to help reduce the size of the tumour – as well as undergoing several rounds of intense chemotherapy.
However, following the discovery of spots on her liver, all plans have been halted until the test results come back. It comes as Katie continues to squeeze the most out of life, after having a fast-paced marriage with comedian Jeff, who connected with her through Instagram last year.
The couple wed in an incredibly intimate ceremony attended only by their parents in the couple’s backyard. As well as this, the pair have adopted an adorable rescue dog, and have even visited an IVF centre to help start a family together.
In an interview with Us Weekly, released on Sunday (March 23), Katie gushed over her beau: “He’s been to every single appointment with me so far. He’s done every single shot that’s involved with IVF.”
She added that Jeff was “great at matching my energy”, and helps to bring a light feel to things when she is down. “He is proving that he’s here to stay; he shows up every day and he does it in ways that just continue to surprise.
Jeff is trying to balance his newlywed’s health woes with his own comedy career, which is continuing to take off. According to his schedule, Jeff is due to be touring around America for most of this year, with his final confirmed tour date coming on October 23.
