Friends stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer all declined to take part in a documentary covering Matthew Perry’s death
Matthew Perry’s Friends co-stars are not featured in a documentary about his death.
The Peacock project, titled Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy, reportedly reached out to his friends Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer, who all declined to take part.
Director Robert Palumbo told The New York Post: “Understandably, they were reluctant to participate in a documentary about Matthew at this point.”
“Maybe many years down the line. We understand their decision not to appear. Many of us remember getting that news that he had died, and then eventually getting the details [that gave us] sort of waves of anger.”
“I feel like people still have him in their hearts and minds. As the facts began to come out about what happened to him, how he died and what possibly could have been a ring of people that sort of facilitated his death, I was really upset.”
The director said that Matthew was “someone who wanted to be remembered,” not solely for his portrayal of Chandler Bing but also for “how he has been able to help other people with addiction issues”.
Although the main Friends stars have decided not to take part, the documentary reportedly does feature an interview with Morgan Fairchild, who played Chandler’s mother in the show.
About her interview, Palumbo said: “I think that that’s still the case to this day, even after his death. I think he will have a legacy of helping other people. And Morgan thought that was really the most important thing to communicate.”
News of Perry’s death rocked the world when he died back in October 2023. The documentary covering what happened to the beloved US actor is available exclusively on the Peacock streaming service and was released on 25 February.
