The Crown Prosecution Service has said it has authorised two further charges of rape and sexual assault against the former comedian, Russell Brand who will appear in court next month
Former comedian Russell Brand is facing extra charges for rape and sexual assault. The Metropolitan Police said Russell Brand, 50, of Oxfordshire, has been charged with one further count of rape and another further count of sexual assault in relation to two more women.
The new allegations are in addition to charges brought against the comedian in April 2025, which include two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault and two counts of sexual assault in relation to four women.
Lionel Idan, Chief Crown Prosecutor for the CPS, said: “Today the Crown Prosecution Service has authorised two further charges of rape and sexual assault against Russell Brand.
“Mr Brand is already charged with two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault in relation to reported non-recent offences between 1999 and 2005, involving four women. These new charges relate to separate reports of non-recent offences in 2009, involving two additional women.
“These additional charges follow an investigation by the Metropolitan Police.
“Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring these additional charges to court and that it is in the public interest to pursue further criminal proceedings.
“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds everyone that criminal proceedings are active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial.
“It is extremely important that there be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”
Brand is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on January 20 to face the new charges.
Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi from the Metropolitan Police, who is leading the investigation, said: “The women who have made reports, including those connected to the two new charges, continue to receive support from specially trained officers.
“The Met’s investigation remains ongoing, and detectives urge anyone affected by this case, or anyone with information, to come forward and speak with police. A dedicated team of investigators can be reached via email at [email protected].
“Support is also available through the independent charity Rape Crisis by contacting the 24/7 Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Line.”
Last year, Brand strongly denied any wrongdoing after The Sunday Times and Channel 4 Dispatches ran a joint investigation into the allegations, claiming that all his relationships had been consensual.
He previously said on X, in front of his 11.2million followers, that he wanted the opportunity to prove his innocence.
