Sarah Michelle Gellar has dropped some exciting news about the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, admitting it’s zipping along quicker than she thought it would.

Last month, it was revealed that Hulu is cooking up a fresh series with the 47-year-old star set to return as the iconic Buffy Summers.

Although she won’t be hogging the limelight this time around, Gellar, who’s also donning the exec producer hat, has advised fans that it will still take some time to get right.

Sadly, one star who won’t be returning is Michelle Trachtenburg who died at the age of 39 earlier this year after a secret health battle.

Chatting with People magazine, she said: “We’ve set up our offices, which means things are progressing probably faster than I’d anticipated. But it’s going to be a process, I think.

“To do it the way it needs to be done, everyone has to be patient with all of us, because this isn’t something that [will just happen].”

The pilot’s getting the star treatment with The Eternals director Chloe Zhao at the helm, and the Zuckerman sisters, Nora and Lila, are on board as showrunners, writers, and executive producers.

And Sarah – teaming up with original big shots Gail Berman, Fran Kuzui, and Kaz Kuzu – can hardly contain her excitement about the “idea and the group behind” this revamp.

She gushed: “I pinch myself every day when I get into these rooms, and I’m looking at Gail Berman, the Zuckermans and Chloé Zhao. It’s an incredible group.

“There was no world where I thought Chloé Zhao was going to call me and partner with me, and ask my advice on things and my opinion – especially because she hasn’t done television.”

Sarah – who is a mother to 15-year-old Charlotte and 12-year-old Rocky with husband Freddie Prinze Jr – expressed her delight that the original Buffy, which aired from 1997 to 2003, continues to maintain a devoted fanbase even to this day.

She said: “As an actor, you just want to do work that stands the test of time, that people still enjoy, not just when it comes out, but years later, and it still is impactful for them.

“So the fact that this show is still so impactful to the people that watched it the first time along with me, to young kids today that are just discovering it and feel like it still speaks to them, being able to bring more people to her, it’s the greatest gift an actor could ever ask for. Truly.”
