As Hollywood hunk Freddie Prinze Jr celebrates his 49th birthday, we’re taking a look inside his monumental marriage with his Scooby Doo co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar – which fans still go wild about to this day.

The couple first met on the set of the 1997 film I Know What You Did Last Summer and exchanged vows in 2002, a year after they worked on the first Scooby Doo film together as Fred and Daphne.

The co-star duo expanded their clan seven years on, with daughter Charlotte arriving in 2009. Sarah then welcomed their second bundle of joy, Rocky, in 2012.

To celebrate their 22nd anniversary last year, Freddie posted a loved up snap of the pair on his Instagram which sent fans wild as they buzzed about the famous couple still going strong.

One wrote: “Dude, the fact that you two defined my childhood, and now to see Fred actually married to Daphne is real-life cinema.” A second added: “Grew up watching you guys and also seeing this. It’s nice to see it’s still going strong 22 years later.”

While a third penned: “Looking good, guys. Teamwork makes the dream work, and you’re a great team.” Whereas a fourth posted: “I didn’t know these two were together in real life?”

The actor has also revealed the secret to his long-lasting marriage to Sarah, revealing that their union has been going strong for over two decades. In a 2022 interview on The Kyle and Jacki O Show, the actor shared the key to their successful marriage.

Freddie confessed that he’s hesitant to dish out relationship advice, but attributed their enduring love to his culinary skills. He joked: “The reason why I think Sarah and I work is because my mom was a chef and I learned how to cook, and I married someone who couldn’t cook.”

With a chuckle, he added: “So I’m necessary. She needs me to live and sustain herself.” Freddie also highlighted the importance of laughter in their relationship. Interestingly, despite meeting in 1997, the Hollywood power couple didn’t go on their first date until three years later.

In a 2020 interview with US Weekly, Freddie revealed that he initially only wanted to be friends with Sarah, 47. He recalled: “By the end of the movie, I just wanted to be friends with her because I thought she was too skinny and I wanted to cook for her. Because that’s what my family does.”

Their friendship blossomed over weekly barbecues at her house, where Freddie and his cousins would cook for Sarah and her friends, making sure everyone had a full plate.

This marked the beginning of their beautiful friendship, which eventually turned into a romance. The lovebirds’ first date back in 2000 was a serendipitous event, as they later shared that it happened by pure chance.

“We were friends for a very long time. We’d had many dinners before. And we were supposed to go with someone else, and the third person didn’t make it out and we decided to still go,” the star of ‘Scream 2’ spilled to PEOPLE Now in 2020. “We were just two people at dinner catching up,” she continued.

“We had a long car ride and a long dinner and things just happened.” The engagement followed in 2001, and the next year saw them tying the knot in sunny Mexico.
