Scooby-Doo icon Shaggy’s real name exposed – and you’ll never guess what it is

Shaggy, one of the main stars of the Scooby-Doo franchise, is the character’s nickname and many viewers have no idea what his real moniker actually is

Scooby-Doo’s star Shaggy’s real name has been exposed and you’ll never guess what it is.

Believe it or not, Shaggy’s real and full name is actually Norville Rogers. Shaggy is one of the main stars of the franchise and is heavily hinted as a stoner, who loves to much on snacks all day with his great dane Scooby-Doo.

According to Scooby-Doo: Behind The Scenes, Shaggy’s former nickname was Buzz because he used to sport a buzz cut. Apparently, the name stuck until his tenth birthday.

Fred also revealed that despite what people have said, the Scooby-Doo star is not on the slim side because his four legged friend always steals his food but because he is actually vegetarian.

Shaggy and Scooby are two of the show’s lead characters

Velma has previously calculated that Shaggy once ate 45% of his bodyweight in Scooby Snacks. Norville also boasts the largest collection of belt buckles in the world at a whopping 653, and has even teased viewers that he wears a new belt during every mystery, which they would notice if they paid attention.

Eagle-eyed viewers will understand his joke as Shaggy always wears a long green t-shirt that covers his waist, meaning his statement can never be confirmed.

Elsewhere in Shaggy’s universe, it was revealed that his parents are Colton and Paula Rogers from the fictional town of Coolsville, Ohio.

He adopted his pet dog Scooby from a puppy farm and meets Fred Jones, Daphne Blake and Velma Dinkley, all five of them becoming the iconic stars of the franchise.

Scooby-Doo: Behind The Scenes reveals that Shaggy purchased the Mystery Machine and painted it with the iconic blue, green and orange colours.

As far as his love life is concerned, he dated Velma for a short while during the show’s first season.

He’s had a few other love interests over the years but most notable was Mary Jane in Scooby Doo: The Movie.

In the live action film, Mary Jane – her name being a euphemism for weed – is played by Isla Fisher. She’s a college student and meets Shaggy, played by Matthew Lillard, on a plane to Spooky Island.

Mary is allergic to dogs but puts up with it because of Shaggy and Scooby, later becoming possessed by a demon until her protoplasm was freed and returned to her.

According to reports, Isla – who often sports auburn locks – had to wear a blonde wig as Daphne, another member of the Mystery Gang, was already a redhead.
