Fans of the Apple TV show Severance are convinced that Helena killed Mark Scout’s wife Gemma after piecing together a breadcrumb trail of “hints” throughout the series
Severance fans are convinced Helena killed Gemma after spotting hints.
A popular theory among fans of the Apple TV series is that Helena Eagen killed Mark Scout’s wife Gemma in a hit and run car accident. After piecing evidence together, viewers think that Helena may have been driving her car, possibly drunk, and collided with Gemma and accidentally killing her in the process.
This could explain Gemma’s presence on Lumon’s severed floor as Miss Casey. Fans have taken to social media to discuss the theory and over on Reddit, many seem to agree.
User FunyunCream wrote: “I wondered if the Gemma accident would turn out to be highly important til the end of the show, the lynchpin of the series. At the gala there was a line from Natalie about Helena being sober.”
“I wondered if Helena has always been a disappointment and as such was drunk driving and randomly killed Gemma.”
They also pointed out that Helena underwent the Severance process to boost the reputation of the company and the family. However, “even this effort was a mess” because her innie, Helly, “refused to participate over and over” before “destroying the gala” during the Overtime Contingency.
The fact that Helena agreed to undergo the Severance procedure also could hint toward the crash. As everyone knows, Mark decided to do the same to try and escape from the death of his wife Gemma – what if Helena did the exact same to deal with the guilt of killing the same woman?
In the same thread, one eager Apple TV agreed with the theory and took things one step further: “Helena hit her and Ms. Cobel witnessed it, which is what Cobel has on Helena.”
They speculated that Gemma’s body was frozen while she was in a coma and “taken to the testing floor,” which could explain “why she never leaves”.
The show’s second season recently ended with the most climactic storyline to date. Innie Mark managed to save Gemma from the testing floor and pushed her out of a fire exit door, only for Innie Mark to close the door, turn around and rush back to Helly.
Severance’s closing shot showed the pair holding hands and running down a Lumon corridor as sirens wailed behind them.
Hopefully viewers won’t have long to wait for the third season as Severance has been officially renewed for a third season. Apple CEO took to X/Twitter to make an announcement and was met with joy from loyal fans of the show.
He wrote: “Season 3 of Severance is available upon request – Tim C.”
Many replied with demands for the series’ creators: “YESSSS and it better end with Mark and Gemma,” demanded one viewer. Another asked: “We all request a season 3 binge-watching waffle party promptly.”
“Thank you Tim Cook, for renewing ‘Severance’ for a third season. Seasons 1 and 2 have been just absolutely awesome,” praised another excited fan of the show.
