Don’t ask Simon Cowell to dig deep into the pockets of his high-waisted trousers – he reckons he’s not stinking rich.

The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent boss is still head judge on BGT – and gave Electric Umbrella his golden buzzer. It’s been estimated the music mogul is worth hundreds of millions after his years in the music industry.

But Simon scoffed at reports pitching his fortune at a head-spinning £500million. Simon insisted: “Oh god, it’s not that. I’m not even close to that. I’m being serious, I’m not. Look, I’m not going to lie, I’ve made a bit of money, yes, but not that much!

“I’ve definitely got enough. I don’t need any more. I don’t yearn for what I thought I wanted a few years ago…”

“I did start to kind of mix with some of those people [who own yachts and private planes] a couple of years ago. I hated it.”

Despite having a more than healthy bank balance, the business and music mogul still frets about his funds. Speaking on Elizabeth Day’s How to Fail podcast, he added: “I always worry about money because I think you have to in a way.”

Meanwhile, Simon admits he is nervous about his upcoming Netflix show – currently titled The Midas Touch – in which he hopes to find the world’s next big boy band.

He explained: “What gives me the right to judge people if I’m not signing artists, for instance, at the moment. I thought, OK, I’m going to do something, to create a band, very publicly…to see whether I can do it again or not…

“There [hasn’t been] a band like One Direction or Little Mix for so many years, why not do it again? And honestly, it was one of the scariest things I’ve ever done. But I had to do it. I think I have [found the band]. I don’t want to give it away.”

Simon recently pressed his golden buzzer for 11-year-old guitarist Olly Pearson during the live semi-finals. Fellow judge Amanda Holden has pressed her golden buzzer during his audition, where he played hits from Queen and Van Halen.

Asked why he pressed the button so early, Simon said: “Why, because he was bl**dy brilliant, seriously. He’s so small, talented and charismatic.

“I went a little early, I’m sorry but I was so excited. You’re just so brilliant and talented. Really, really, really talented.”
