Spice Girl Mel C drops bombshell hint band will tour for milestone anniversary

Mel C has teased fans with the idea of a Spice Girls reunion after she recently hinted that the iconic noughties pop stars want to do “something special” and mark a momentous occasion

Sporty Spice Mel C has dropped a serious hint that the band could be reuniting.

Mel C, real name Melanie Jayne Chrisholm, spoke to The Jimmy and Nath Show on Australia’s 2Day FM and teased that the girls are hoping to do “something special” to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Wannabe, arguably their most famous hit.

She said: “Obviously I can’t say too much but we are talking about things. Hopefully a nice little world tour.”

The song was released back in 1996 and stayed at the number one spot in the UK charts for seven weeks straight. Mel C dropped a breadcrumb trail for eager Spice Girls fans, although nothing has been confirmed.

Geri, the two Melanies, Emma and Victoria – known as Ginger, Sporty, Scary, Baby and Posh – formed the Spice Girls back in 1994, two years before Wannabe was released.

They quickly became the hottest girl band of the 90s and arguably one of the most recognisable groups in the world before things sadly started to crumble.

Geri decided to leave the group in 1998 during their Spice World tour due to “exhaustion” and “differences” between the group, later explaining that she had been struggling with depression and battling an eating disorder.

December 2000 rolled around and Spice Girls fans were devastated to hear that the group had decided to take a break, later disbanding for good in February 2001 much to the world’s dismay.

They regrouped for The Return of the Spice Girls tour in 2007 and their last official performance was at the London 2012 Olympics’ closing ceremony. The Spice Girls toured the UK and Ireland in 2019 without Victoria Beckham.

All five girls attended Posh’s 50th birthday back in 2024 and her husband David filmed the group performing Stop. He shared the video on his social media but was quick to dispel any rumours of a Spice Girl reunion.

“Victoria was so pleased to see the girls and it was a massive part of her life, the girls, but obviously all the girls have got their own thing going on.”

“Victoria’s full on with her beauty and fashion businesses. If anyone’s busier than me it’s her,” he said, before confirming that there is “nothing more he’d like than to see them all on stage again”.

David even promised fans that he would “work at it” to try and sort out a reunion.
