EXCLUSIVE: The Apprentice star Harpreet Kaur has opened up about how worried she was before confessing her romance to Lord Sugar after she met her man on the BBC show
The Apprentice winner Harpreet Kaur was more worried about telling Lord Sugar about her romance than her own father.
The 2022 winner spoke exclusively to Daily Star, in collaboration with https://www.skyvegas.com/games/slots, as she opened up about her co-star relationship with her BBC competitor Akshay Thakrar
Harpreet told us: “[Our romance didn’t happen] while we were filming or anything like that. It all came after the show, after filming, and even after it aired on TV.
“I remember messaging him [Lord Sugar] to let him know because I felt it was the right thing to do. He was really positive and supportive. I remember him even giving my husband a follow on X [Twitter], which must mean he likes him! He was genuinely supportive and kind about it.
“It was like when you tell your dad you’re in a relationship – I had to tell my real dad, and then I had to tell Lord Sugar! I’m not sure which one was more daunting – it was probably Lord Sugar!”
Last year, Harpreet married her competitor Akshay but insisted no flirtation happened during their time on the show, as contestants are banned from cosying up to one another.
Harpreet shared: “Since then, we’ve heard about people breaking the rules and getting up to no good, but in our year, we were all pretty sensible.
“Of course, I ended up marrying one of my competitors, but there was no romance in the house – between us or anyone else.”
She also shared her top tip for winning the show as she claimed it’s all about maintaining honesty.
Harpreet explained: “I never really had to defend myself too much because, out of the 10 tasks, I won eight. Even in the final task, I didn’t need to defend myself – Lord Sugar pretty much told me straight away that I wasn’t going home. When I put myself forward, I just focused on showcasing real examples where I made decisions and led the way – that’s all you can do.
“You can’t have too much of a strategy because Karren [Brady] and Tim [Campbell] are watching you throughout the tasks. They see everything, so if you try to act like a different person in the boardroom, it’ll be obvious – even if they don’t say anything. They do speak to Lord Sugar.
“The only strategy I had – and the one that worked for me – was to always be honest. I was always upfront about what I felt I did well and what I could’ve done better. If you’re honest about what you can deliver, that’s the best way to approach it. If you sit there and lie, and then go into business with Lord Sugar, I can assure you that’s going to be much tougher than any process on The Apprentice. The only real strategy is to be honest.”
