Tens of thousands of Oasis fans have descended on Cardiff ahead of the band’s first gig since 2009.

Every pub and bar along St Mary’s Street in the Welsh capital is filled with people waiting for the concert to start, with the majority wearing the Britpop band’s merchandise.

The turnout rivals Cardiff’s busiest rugby days, with fans having waited almost 16 years for the band to reunite.

Oasis are performing at the Principality Stadium, which has a capacity of 74,500, for two nights.

Follow along with tonight’s events by watching Daily Star’s live blog, which will cover everything from fan excitement to support acts to the main events.

The Gallagher brothers are kicking off their reunion tour in the Welsh capital and Daily Star has been on the ground chatting to fans ahead of their first concert.

Punters young and old have flown in from Korea, Japan, Mexico, Argentina and beyond, and Ali and Kem from Turkey told us: “We are here just for today. We first saw Oasis in Boston in 99. We chose the first concert to reduce the risk of having them fighting and cancelling.”

Sam and Matt travelled all the way from Ontario, Canada. Matt spoke to us and said: “I used to play their songs high school, so I got into them. Wonder Wall was the first song I learned on the guitar, 13 years ago now.”

Sam added: “I had to buy these tickets because I didn’t know they were coming to Canada. It was 2.30am our time to buy them. We’re here for the first show so If something blows up between them we’ve seen it.”

Visitors closer to home also discussed Noel and Liam’s comeback gig with us. Mark, Ethan Harrison Reece from Coventry, who are all wearing Daily Star newspaper hats to the event, told us: “I can assure you there will be tears from the moment they walk out on stage together. I think Noel and Liam have been friendly longer than people think. You can’t put this together in a year.”

Aaron and Charlotte from Birmingham also said: “I’ve been a fan for about 100 years. My first gig was Knebworth ‘96. So it’s been a long journey.”

“For me, from an geeky aspect, I’m looking forward to hearing what it sounds like with the roof closed. Oasis, the sound has changed a lot over the years. It was very raw. Then, obviously, it became a bit cleaner towards the latter days. I’m quite intrigued to see.”
