Eric Mabius, who shot to fame as Daniel Meade on Ugly Betty, was arrested on Thursday morning after allegedly pulling a woman’s hair out in a bar brawl in Florida
Eric Mabius, the star of Ugly Betty, was nicked in the early hours of Thursday morning (February 20) after a pub brawl where he allegedly pulled hair from a woman’s head.
The 53-year-old actor, famed for his role as Daniel Meade on the ABC series, which catapulted lead actress America Ferrera to Hollywood stardom, that aired from 2006 to 2010, is also accused of shoving the same woman to the ground.
The Nassau County sheriff’s department responded to a call about a barney in a pub in Yulee, Florida, just north of Jacksonville, arriving around 2:13 AM to find a heavily intoxicated man and woman, who were not named. The duo were reportedly causing a ruckus inside the pub, with deputies helping the woman outside where she continued to resist.
According to the report, the bartender and several patrons asked the disruptive woman to leave, leading her to spit at multiple people. This allegedly led Eric to shove the woman and another female to the ground, before getting on top of the second woman and yanking her hair, reportedly tearing some out.
Despite being separated by other pub-goers, Eric continued to behave aggressively when the police arrived. He reportedly refused to comply with commands to sit down and walked behind one of the deputies, leading to his arrest.
Eric and both women were arrested for battery and resisting without violence, reports the Express US. The actor’s shocking mugshot, revealing his bruised face, was made public earlier on Thursday, reports the Mirror US.
He was apprehended and held at the Nassau County Jail and Detention Center just before 6am. TMZ reports that he’s facing two misdemeanor charges: battery and resisting an officer without violence.
Eric married his high school sweetheart, Ivy Sherman, in 2006, a decade after they started dating at Amherst Regional High School in Amherst, Massachusetts, as per the Daily Mail. The pair have two sons, Maxfield Elliot and Rylan Jaxon, 16.
After Ugly Betty wrapped up in 2010, the family relocated back to Eric’s home state of Massachusetts. “My kids don’t need a big house.
“They just need to be with their dad and mom” Eric said in a 2014 interview with Cape Cod Times.
The actor and Ivy parted ways in 2016, finalising their divorce in 2018, although Eric has never publicly addressed it. However, in December 2023, Eric hinted at a new mystery woman on his Instagram.
She has featured in several posts between December 2023 and October 2024, but her identity remains undisclosed as he hasn’t tagged her in any posts. It’s unclear if he’s still seeing the woman from those posts, as it’s been four months since he last posted a photo with her.
Ugly Betty was a comedy-drama centred around Betty Suarez who lands a job at a prestigious high fashion magazine despite her lack of style and physical appearance.
During its four-season run, it scooped up 42 awards and 92 nominations, including two Golden Globes – one for Best Comedy Series and another for America Ferrera, who nabbed Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy in 2007. After Ugly Betty, Eric secured a role in the Hallmark Channel series Signed, Sealed, Delivered.
