Liam Neeson stars in the upcoming The Naked Gun instalment, which serves as the fourth in the franchise, but film fans can’t stop criticising one major detail in the trailer
The Naked Gun is undergoing a reboot, starring Liam Neeson.
A trailer for the new instalment in the franchise was recently released, but film fans have slammed the idea of a remake. The upcoming film stars Liam Neeson as the protagonist and the trailer shows him entering a bank dressed as a school girl.
Neeson rips the head off his costume as KRS-One’s Sound Of Da Police plays in the background.
After stabbing criminals with his sharpened lollipop stick, Neeson then places his foot up on a mantle as his skirt exposes his underwear – pink pants covered with hearts.
Someone else wrote: “Oh, What a way to ruin a good movie. It needs to be Leslie Nielsen, his deadpan delivery of the jokes made that series so memorable.”
Another said: “5 seconds into the trailer and…….the film is ruined. I can’t finish the trailer. WTAF was that?! Who decided that disguise was a good idea? That was cringe […]”
A third added: “I think I’ll take a pass, absolutely no need for a reboot and the idea was to make a comedy…lame.”
One savage comment even read: “Am I the only one who thinks this reboot is completely unnecessary?”
Others noted that they thought the film “should never have been remade,” that the film had been “ruined,” that they predict the film is “gonna be awful” and that they “don’t know how to feel” about the upcoming project.
The Naked Gun is reportedly expected to released on 1 August this year. Alongside Liam Neeson stars Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Cody Rhodes, Kevin Durand, Liza Koshy and Busta Rhymes.
Seth McFarlane has produced the flick alongside Erica Huggins and serves as the fourth film in The Naked Gun franchise.
News of a reboot was first announced way back in 2013. Filming reportedly began in May last year, wrapped in June and the first trailer released 3 April 2025.
The Naked Gun series is a number of crime spoof-comedies that centres on a police detective played by Leslie Nielsen. A number of reboot critics have joked that Liam Neeson was brought on board due to the similarities in their names.
